Historia
This is the cut-to-the-chase quality that makes economics not only applicable to the interpretation of law, but beneficial to its crafting. Drawing on numerous commonsense examples, in addition to his extensive knowledge of Chicago-school economics, David D. Friedman offers a spirited defense of the economic view of law. He clarifies the relationship between law and economics in clear prose that is friendly to students, lawyers, and lay listeners without sacrificing the intellectual heft of the ideas presented.

interesting approach to law
Revisado: 07-27-24
the book sounds like it was recorded in a public bathroom with a squeaking door constantly sounding in the background but its audibility is fine; the topic is novel to someone who takes interest in economics but knows nothing about law. some of the exposition would be better looked at in writing but the book does mention some associated pdfs that are freely available

Hand wavy with terrible examples
Revisado: 12-03-23
This book provides no actionable advice and most of the claims made in it were either obviously false when it was written or proven false since. The author is a biologist who seems to think her expertise in one field carries to others like economy, politics, and psychology. The book should be used in first year philosophy classes for how many different types of logical fallacies it has examples of.

Historia
This reissue of Thomas Sowell’s classic study of decision making, which includes a preface by the author, updates his seminal work in the context of The Vision of the Anointed. Sowell, one of America’s most celebrated public intellectuals, describes in concrete detail how knowledge is shared and disseminated throughout modern society. He warns that society suffers from an ever-widening gap between firsthand knowledge and decision making—a gap that threatens not only our economic and political efficiency but our very freedom.

Great book, lazy audio port
Revisado: 01-11-23
The book and narration are great. It feels more rigorous than other books by the same author and it's more cohesive than the generic-sounding title might imply.
But the book is split up in roughly one-hour chunks, erroneously called chapters, that don't match the book's chapters. How lazy can the publisher be to not even bother to get the table of contents right? It makes it impossible to go back to sections you want to revisit because there'd be no way of knowing where they are.

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

superficial
Revisado: 04-23-22
Lots of interesting bits but overall it covers topics in a pretty superficial way. The history parts are the best; the chapters on psychology and particularly economics are embarrassingly bad, the author should stick to what they know well.

In December 2009, a group of the CIA’s top terrorist hunters gathered at a secret base in Khost, Afghanistan, to greet a rising superspy: Humam Khalil al-Balawi, a Jordanian double-agent who infiltrated the upper ranks of al-Qaeda. For months, he had sent shocking revelations from inside the terrorist network and now promised to help the CIA assassinate Osama bin Laden’s top deputy. Instead, as he stepped from his car, he detonated a 30-pound bomb strapped to his chest, instantly killing seven CIA operatives....

The author needs your help...
Revisado: 03-09-18
...for he has been trapped under a rock since the 1950s. If you were born after 1920, you may not get much from this book.
More seriously, the content is thin and spread verbosely. Expect mind-numbing bits like "the way you act, behave, and comport yourself." The William Shatner performance of the reader makes it worse; the author should have done it.
