What disappointed you about The Bone Bed?

The first half of the book was like a beach without water. I repeatedly threatened to stop listening, but stayed with it because of all the rave reviews I'd read before I purchased it. I kept thinking it's got to "get good" sooner or later. The characters, including the heroine, seemed entirely self obsessed with needlessly long dialogue that didn't help much in the telling of the story. This is the first Scarpetta story I've encountered and it will be the last.

What could Patricia Cornwell have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

If I had encountered these characters in "real life" I would have walked away. Make me like at least some of the people I'm learning about. I thought the court grilling Scarpetta received was totally unrealistic. The lawyers behaviors were over the top, and I never did understand what their behavior had to do with the story.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

Any additional comments?

The four plus stars this book rated when I first chose it make me wonder about the judgement of those writing the reviews. It has a lower rating now, so I guess I'm not alone in my reaction to it.

It was like listening to a sermon from a naive lefty. Couldn't get through it all...
