Historia
One of Johann Hari’s earliest memories is of trying to wake up one of his relatives and not being able to. As he grew older, he realized he had addiction in his family. Confused, not knowing what to do, he set out and traveled over 30,000 miles over three years to discover what really causes addiction - and what really solves it.

Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Alarming, though not surprising. A call to action
Revisado: 09-26-24
Excellently researched arguments with attention to both boys and girls. As a counselor I found the content helpful to frame many of my clients stories. As a parent it is a reminder to guard device implementation as well as foster independence in the real world. Excellent practical steps to implement as well as guidelines to follow.

One gorgeous autumn day, Harrison discovers that his wife—the sweet, funny, loving mother of their three daughters, a woman “who’s spent just about every Sunday of her life in a church”—is having an affair with a family friend. This revelation propels the hysterical, heartbreaking events in How to Stay Married, casting our narrator onto “the factory floor of hell,” where his wife was now in love with a man who “wears cargo shorts, on purpose.” What will he do? Kick her out?

Fantastic & Honest Book of Healing
Revisado: 10-21-23
I have listen to this book twice and have found it deeply moving and hilarious both times. In between I went back and listen to his first book, which is also hilarious. I connect to this world, the Mississippi Presbyterian ridiculousness that is southern life. As a counselor, his raw emotions and attempts to be present with himself throughout the book are a gift. I will continue to recommend it to my clients who are struggling in marriage, whether through affairs or not as the wrestling of marriage is present when two ppl get married (as we all come from different cultures even if we grew up next door to each other). Harrison is honest about his brokenness, which makes this book so much better. It is a gift to all who read it.

Historia
In his long career, eminent psychotherapist and author Irvin Yalom has pressed his patients and readers to grapple with life's two greatest challenges: that we all must die, and that each of us is responsible for leading a life worth living. In Creatures of a Day, he and his patients confront the difficulty of these challenges. Although these people have come to Yalom seeking relief, recognition, or meaning, they discover that such things are rarely found in the places where we think to look.

Great Narrator
Revisado: 03-25-23
I love listening to Yalom’s insights. He is brilliant. It helps to have such a great narrator. He sounded quite similar to Yalom (to group videos I listened to in graduate school for counseling). Rich content.

Excellent book, thoroughly informative and helpful
Revisado: 01-11-23
As a licensed professional counselor I read a lot of books. I purchased the audiobook after hearing her interview on the podcast Journal of a Love Addict.
Britt has done a phenomenal job compiling so many helpful tools in one place. Her book was engaging from start to finish and provided me with fresh angles on struggles that I work with daily. It was both well researched and vulnerably written. I found myself constantly having to pause and go back 30 seconds to write a quote down. This will be a book that I buy a hardcopy of as well.

A Quality Honest And Unique Recovery Approach
Revisado: 07-30-21
As a counselor recovering parts of my life and behaviors, this book is a refreshing blend of the author’s struggles with engaging his program and his personal version of the program. I appreciate the generic aspect of his 12 step program as it helps with all unhealthy struggles.

Phenomenal Book
Revisado: 04-09-21
This book is insightful in pointing the reader to the healthy God given desires and needs that drive maladaptive behaviors. I find it helpful as a counselor but also a man and believer.
