Historia
Laurie Holcombe is out of a job, out of luck, and out of time. When a prestigious law firm hires her as an assistant to one of its senior partners, it feels like she might finally get back on her feet. All she has to do is put up with the whims of her infuriatingly icy boss, Diana. How hard could that be? Diana Parker is Atlanta's top lawyer and isn't afraid to let everyone know it. She's driven, ruthless, demanding, and stuck in a failing marriage. Too bad she can't run her personal life as well as she runs her ordered office.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Historia
Magic! Murder! Shipboard romance! Maud Blyth has always longed for adventure. She expected plenty of it when she volunteered to serve as an old lady’s companion on an ocean liner, in order to help her beloved older brother unravel a magical conspiracy that began generations ago. What she didn’t expect was for the old lady in question to turn up dead on the first day of the voyage. Now she has to deal with a dead body, a disrespectful parrot, and the lovely, dangerously outrageous Violet Debenham, who’s also returning home to England.

I loved this book. It’s well-written: clever, punchy, sexy, and so much fun. The narrator was fantastic too. I’m sad it’s over!

Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she’s now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people. As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre’s hollowness and nightmares consume her. She finds herself split into two different people: one who upholds her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court, and one who lives out her life in the Spring Court with Tamlin.

love the stories, loathe the writing
Revisado: 01-27-25
i want to read these books for the subject matter and the storylines, but i can’t handle SJM’s writing. it’s redundant and unimaginative, and the main character is obnoxious. i think the narrator does her job well but she really accentuates the obnoxiousness.

my eyes hurt from rolling
Revisado: 01-23-25
i like a fantasy fae storyline, and of course the tension. it’s entertaining. i wanted to like it so badly, but the writing… i can’t. the author recycles descriptors constantly. i the main character is not charming and i don’t want to be in this person’s head.

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

i really appreciated having a non-binary main character. it’s a sweet, optimistic story. the narration didn’t do it for me, though. the editing was wonky & some parts sounded narrated by a robot - fitting!

life-changing book, unnecessarily aggressive narration
Revisado: 09-16-22
this book changed my life. i want to read it again and again, but i can’t stomach the narration. it’s so condescending. i’ve listened to michael singer’s narrations and berating his audience is not his style. but, if you can handle it, your life will be changed!
