Historia
In this volume, Steven Johnson explores the history of innovation over centuries, tracing facets of modern life (refrigeration, clocks, and eyeglass lenses, to name a few) from their creation by hobbyists, amateurs, and entrepreneurs to their unintended historical consequences. Filled with surprising stories of accidental genius and brilliant mistakes - from the French publisher who invented the phonograph before Edison but forgot to include playback, to the Hollywood movie star who helped invent the technology behind Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Phenomenal book!
Revisado: 07-15-17
We loved this book. It explains how relatively simple discoveries can lead to huge advancements in knowledge and civilization. It is easy to listen to and the reader engages you from the start. I think this would be a great book for high school students because it demonstrates how "science" is all around us and has been since the beginning of time.

We listened to about half the book. This one did not grab our attention like The Girls of Atomic City and others in this genre. We gave up on it.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Better to read or watch this one
Revisado: 07-15-17
This is a very visual story and was difficult to keep track of while listening to it. I kept thinking I missed something, then going back. Nope. It just jumps around a lot. I found it tedious so I finally rented the DVD to watch rather than listen.
