Read this bc my 17yr son recommended it to me, and I was really impressed! Original storyline, great characters and world building, and the audiobook narrator did a fantastic job. You don’t need to have read other books in the series to thoroughly enjoy this one.

I really wanted to like this. I have many of the same pop culture references as the author, it’s an interesting story idea, I love sci-fi. But this…I mean,..really? (Some spoilers ahead)

Where the duck are the women? Yes, I’m aware it’s about replications of a dude, but there are plenty of other characters, human, replicant and alien. And yes, I’m aware it’s not completely devoid of women. But here’s a little experiment for you. Let’s say you were casting this for a movie. How many men would you need? What personality traits would you use to describe their characters? How many lines of dialogue would they have? Now for the women. I would say there’s one woman with a personality trait (Andrea/funny), now how many women would have even a full page of dialogue, even if you put it in ducking 32 point font???

He travels across the universe to find a Neolithic alien civilization where, surprise! Men hold all the spears and are smart and the women…have babies. Because it mirrors human civilization apparently. Except you can literally google this and anthropologists will tell you that women did plenty of hunting. Truly. Author, please contact me if you’d like me to womansplain how to use the Google.

So I won’t be checking out the rest of these books. I don’t give any ducks how the men, human, replicant or AI resolve any of this. The end.

My first listen won’t be my last, I think I could listen to this every day for a year and still laugh and cry with it.

Please make more! Love these comics so much and it was so fun to listen to the characters I love be brought to this format. Very well done! I’m ready to follow these semi-suburban sapphists through many more adventures! I’m sorry for all the exclamation points but I’m really fan-girling over this and I can’t stop!

So many good and brutiful things here. But my favorite take away has to be Glennons response to those who question why she left her marriage and married Abby. ‘Because I’m a grown *ss woman, and I do what the *uck I want.’ There’s a lot of context to the statement, but I’m envisioning wallet sized cards that we can easily hand out to people questioning what we do with our own lives. ‘Ah, yes, clearly you question my decision. Let me just assure that I have (hands over card) official clearance to do what the *uck I want. I rest assured we can consider the matter closed’. Just an idea 🤷🏻‍♀️
