Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Wanted to get inside this creep's head
Revisado: 04-12-25
It didn't reveal as much about Vance's beliefs as I thought it would. I was also surprised he shares some more progressive values in the book, like the importance of science, believe it or not.
The book does, however, showcase his grandiosity in the mere fact that it was written. Why does he think his upbringing was so unique as to warrant writing memoir before anyone even knew who he was? Does he think he was the only person to grow up in a rural conservative environment and still "make it" in life? Well, the rest of us who were brought up in a similar environment didn't turn into far right, power hungry zealots like you did, Mr Vance.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 10-30-24
The plot is fairly predictable and somewhat illogical. Some of the narrator’s voices are cringy.

Historia
Never is an extraordinary novel, full of heroines and villains, false prophets and elite warriors, jaded politicians and opportunistic revolutionaries. It brims with cautionary wisdom for our times, and delivers a visceral, heart-pounding story that transports listeners to the brink of the unimaginable.

Meh
Revisado: 11-08-23
Ken Follet is losing his touch (probably due to old age.) This novel has a pretty forgettable story and characters. I am not a fan of the narrator.

Historia
Some of the best philosophers in the world gather in surprising places—preschools and playgrounds. They debate questions about metaphysics and morality, even though they’ve never heard those words and can’t tie their shoes. They’re kids. And as University of Michigan professor of philosophy and law Scott Hershovitz shows, they can help grown-ups solve some of life’s greatest mysteries.

Sophomoric
Revisado: 08-01-22
Throughout this book, I had the distinct feeling the "conversations" he had with his kids were made up. Overall, I didn't find the book very informative, as most of the content falls into the realm of common sense. But as they say, "common sense isn't common," so many will likely benefit from this pretentious book.

Historia
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother. As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was.

Boring and cliche
Revisado: 06-29-22
Wow. This book was on the best seller list? How far we have fallen. Extremely shallow plot that isn't even remotely original. Mother trying to win over her snotty 16 year old step daughter for the majority of the book. No thanks!

Historia
Armed with clear and powerful evidence, Atif Mian and Amir Sufi reveal in House of Debt how the Great Recession and Great Depression, as well as the current economic malaise in Europe, were caused by a large run-up in household debt followed by a significantly large drop in household spending. Though the banking crisis captured the public's attention, Mian and Sufi argue strongly with actual data that current policy is too heavily biased toward protecting banks and creditors.

Very forced performance by the narrator. Why on earth did they pick this guy to read it?
