Historia
In addition to being San Diego's supernatural mediator, John Smith is the city's least successful private investigator. Those two careers collide when what was supposed to be a simple infidelity case draws the attention of the local werewolf pack. John soon finds himself pressed into service mediating a separation between the pack's married leaders. Even under normal circumstances, divorce is hell. But when werewolves are involved? It's murder.

Not enough chaos? Throw in some wolves!😊
Revisado: 04-20-25
I'm going through these books like fresh cookies. I just can't stop. 🥰😭
Without giving us pages of "I didn't know that magic was real," we get a story about how the main character transitions from a regular private investigator to a supernatural investigator. He fumbles a lot but not to the point where it is overly silly.
The author writes these so that each book's mystery has an ending. So there are no cliffhangers in that regard.
The main character is complex in a way that took me a minute to appreciate. John tells too many secrets. His own and those of others without thinking. Then I recognized that he is truly an honest person. There are times when he could have legally made extra money to pay his mounting bills but doesn't charge customers when he feels it is morally the right thing to do.
What's new about this book? Werewolves are added to the chaos 🐺. I didn't care for the authors' take on how werewolves "age". Also, these werewolves have more flaws than usual. Not very powerful. So, they are really no match for other supernaturals.
This book has interludes that give away part of the ending. Don't worry, there are more twist and turns after you figure out who did it.
Last but not least, I loved the narration by Joel Richard. His portrayal of the characters is perfect.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Hardly any magic
Revisado: 04-09-25
This should have been like hearing a story from the POV of Batman's butler. Alfred's take on things. Instead, this felt like eating salad.
You know how some days your taste buds are begging for something spicy and some days you want something "light" like a salad? Well, this book is for your literary salad day.
I felt as though I was reading the daily journal of a new butler. I was surprisingly invested in how the butler's relationship would develop with the wizard.
A big issue of mine was about the fact that "Wizard" is in the title, but this book had the bare minimum of magic instances allowed to classify it as fantasy. If the minimum were 2, then this would be on the magical scale of 1.9999... it made it to fantasy on a technicality 🤣
Don't get me started on how the author chose to present the pixies. Oh brother, how art thou allowed to do this to brownies and pixies? 🙄
Oh, and if I had a dime for everyime that I heard "Yes sir" and "No sir"... well, I'd have enough to pay off everyones student loans.
Then, there is what was supposed to be the big show down with the niece. Straight flat line of a finale. And I don't mean they killed it. I mean, it was dead on arrival.
With all that complaining, I actually wish there was a second book. Like I said, I got invested in the relationship even if the story was on the bland side.

27 Dresses with an extra twist
Revisado: 04-09-25
Well, this is a RomCom movie waiting to bless the hallmark channel.
I was actually interested and all in until the Male Character started acting as though this woman's job was some large Watergate conspiracy that would level nations.
Seriously, she was basically acting an event planner and seat filler. A bridesmaids cancles last minute... throw in the ringer. If you aren't able to decide who should be the maid of honor, choose neither, and throw in the ringer. it's not that complicated to understand.
Actually, I would love that job. All the drama from this felt fake. There was drama in not telling some of the other main characters and drama in how it was received by some. It was just unrealistic.
I was more interested in hearing about all the different gigs and bridezilla stories she had. That would have been a great book.
Narration was fine.

Historia
The good news is I survived the murderous fae prince. I also found my aunt and embraced my inner dragon. Everything should be going great, right? If only. My aunt has disappeared again, I haven't heard from Draven in months, and the Fae Court wants to question me about their prince's death. To make matters worse, there's a gargoyle terrorizing my customers, my savings are running out, and I may lose the bookstore unless I can find a second job.

Great narrator
Revisado: 04-02-25
Well, it both gets better and worse from the first book. The story gets more complicated, and an awesome new side character gets screen time. The gargoyle is hilarious. Unfortunately, the family drama was so unrealistic that it pulled me out of the fantasy world.
The obvious hint drops of one of the main mysteries just made me feel our main character is getting dumber in this second story. For a girl who does nothing but read books, she is not good at picking up clues and plot twists.
The love story takes two steps forward and one step back. It's feeling dragged out at this point. Not that I want instalove, but ovrr 16 hours in and we can't even knowledge that you like the other person. And these dummies are gonna save the world??? Goddess help us 😅

Historia
Petra Grady has known since adolescence that she has no talent for magic—and that’s never going to change. But as a sweeper first-class, she’s parlayed her rare ability to handle dross—the damaging, magical waste generated by her more talented kin’s spellwork—into a decent life working at the mages’ university. Except Grady’s relatively predictable life is about to be upended.

Very similar to The Hollows
Revisado: 03-31-25
This seems to recycle some of the storylines from The Hollows series. Unfortunately, Petra seems to have the same character flaws as Rachel Morgan.
She has a roommate taking advantage of her.
A love interest who looks down on her
She has a type of magic that is frowned upon.
Dross is basically the same concept as black smudge from the Hollows.
Petra doesn't make smart choices for someone who is a grown-up and "expert" in her position.
I was willing to look aside at the overly done foreshadowing. Then someone unannounced shows up at a "safe" house, and Petra doesn't question it. Instead, follow them down a tunnel where she knows she will be trapped.
At that moment, I just finished the book because I didn't want another DNF. He main character is dumb as a bag of rocks. The main live interest is uninteresting. The plot is so-so but needed some fleshing out.
The narrator was good. It took me a few chapters for my brain to accept that this wasn't the other series. The use of a different narrator would have helped to distinguish this as a new series in a different world.

Historia
A dragon, a fae, and a pixie walk into a bookstore… Sounds like a joke, right? For me, it's just an ordinary day on the job. At least, it has been ever since my aunt disappeared and left me with her store, her cat, and a whole lot of unanswered questions. My whole life, I've been told to stay hidden. Pretend I'm human. Sell books, drink tea, and never betray the truth of what I am. But it turns out my aunt had secrets, and a lot of those secrets seem to involve me ending up dead. To survive, I'm going to have to reckon with my past, even if it means placing my trust in a total stranger.

Baby dragons
Revisado: 03-28-25
YA novel. It's an easy read. Nothing too serious. All the men are gorgeous. All the women are pretty. Female lead is an innocent snowflake with the rarest, powerful magic that she doesn't know how to use. You know those kinds of stories. Female lead both stumbles and runs head first into danger because... well, because she is so smart that she's dumb.
I have so many questions, and it becomes irritating that she doesn't ask these same questions. Alas, the weakest link and uneducated baby dragon help to save the day.
I'd say this is very slightly similar to Annette Marie Codex Series... but without the indepth world building and complex storylines.
Potential. No insta-love. Narration was great.

Another wizard series to add to your collections
Revisado: 03-08-25
First, the main character's name must be some inside joke that I don't get. Grishaw Griswald Grimsby. Really???
The book is good. There is a :
poorly trained wizard
An elderly assassin
A goblin trickster
A mystery to solve
And a love interest that isn't instalove.
I hate that he made Grimsly so pathetic. Like this dude is wimpy, bad at magic, bullied, broke, and lonely. He is supposed to be a good person but doesn't have a single friend. Not one. No family. Just literally alone and running out of Raman.
I've seen so many people comparing this author to his dad... geesh. Let it go. No wonder children try to act/write/sing by different names than their parents.
Good debut. I am expecting the storyline to get more complex. Jumping right into Book 2. Since my first few reads of 2025 have been meh, this is definitely the best book I've read so far.

Worse, she's learned that unless she marries, and quickly, her family will lose their witch magic—forever. Feylin, king of the fae, has no interest in romance. In fact, the only thing he's interested in is getting revenge on the Thornrose family for ruining his life. So when he learns that they're holding a Bridgerton-style ball to marry off their oldest daughter, Addison, he sees an opportunity for vengeance.

Magical Bridgerton
Revisado: 02-26-25
This is basically a magical Bridgerton minus the spicy sex scenes. Seven sisters need to be married off to save the family line. The family arranges a few Balls to introduce their daughters to potential wizard husbands.
If you're into Romantic Comedies with an Enemy to Lovers story libe, this should meet your needs. The magic world doesn't get a thorough explanation, but I don't think
The female narrator, Scarlette Dorian, does this loud breathing. The editor should have taken that out. Other than the breathing, her narration was pretty good. Also, duet style should have been used for the two narrators.
Why 3 Stars? The ending. Oh, brother. Dumb. This is one of those stories where all the drama is caused by people not communicating. One conversation and all could have been avoided.

Good Story... Great Voices... Questionable pronunciations
Revisado: 01-17-25
This is my first book of 2025! Short and sweet review. I really liked this story. It felt "new". When you read as many books as I do, it isn't easy for a story to feel "new." The story around the Goddesses and human vessels was the most interesting. The love story begins here and takes the usual friends to enemy path. It's a good start to the romance portions.
My main issue with this was that the narrator mispronounced common words. For example, the word was Katana. Every American has heard the word and knows it's a type of sword. But the narrator trounced it as Katina. So most of the book I thought she was calling someone's name. This chick was talking about the sword 🤣. Also, she kept misprouncing the word Chi (Ki or Qi, depending on where you are). It wasn't until reading someone else's review that I realized what she was trying to say 🤣 Everyone was heard the word even if they didn't know what it meant.
I would think the author would give notes and check this when a book is being read by someone who doesn't speak the language. I don't speak Japanese either, so the fact that I picked up on it means it means the author nor the publisher listened to this audio before publishing. -1 Star for that. Couldn't have been a 4 Star book.

Cute but Mystery Killer Disappointing.
Revisado: 09-22-24
Everything that can be expected from a cozy mystery. Not too dark or serious and leaning more into comedy than drama.
Really, most of the stuff in book one could have happened without there being any magic element to the story. This one tries to emphasize the magical element of the series. By the end, I felt like this could have just been a regular serial killer, and the story would have been the same.
I would have loved this as an Urban Fantasy more, but this is still cute and a decent listen.
With any genre, I hate when the bad guy is some random person. 😑
Amanda Ronconi is now just THE narrator for this cozy magical series. I've come to expect her voice for these stories. When you're good you're good.
