Historia
Science is how we understand the world. Yet failures in peer review and mistakes in statistics have rendered a shocking number of scientific studies useless—or, worse, badly misleading. Such errors have distorted our knowledge in fields as wide-ranging as medicine, physics, nutrition, education, genetics, economics, and the search for extraterrestrial life. As Science Fictions makes clear, the current system of research funding and publication not only fails to safeguard us from blunders but actively encourages bad science—with sometimes deadly consequences.

Must read
Revisado: 07-26-24
This is a MUST read/listen for everybody working in the sciences, especially journal editors and science administrators. Enlightening and very entertaining to boot. One concern is that the “regular person” may come away with the expression that science cannot be trusted at all, which was certainly not the intention of the author. Quite obviously, Stuart Richie loves science and is simply appalled by its widespread abuse. What he teaches us is that we should not abdicate our critical thinking skills when evaluating scientific news. I highly recommend this book for everybody who is interested in how modern science works (or does not work).

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

Not my kind of humor.
Revisado: 07-22-23
I couldn't finish this book. Pointless, humorless nonsense, at least for me. If you enjoy splatter movies and violent video games, this may be for you.

Historia
Long hailed as one of the greatest novels of the 20th century, Joseph Conrad's tale of one man's descent into the mysterious and deadly Congo jungle to find a messianic ivory trader is a journey into the depths of man's own greed and quest for power. Marlow, our narrator, relates his story of his slow upriver quest to meet the strange and enigmatic Kurtz, who lives isolated in the jungle and is revered by the natives he exploits.

Brilliant rendition
Revisado: 11-30-21
Charles Constant does a brilliant job narrating this text. As far as I can tell, the text has not been censured in this rendition as it purportedly has in the narration by Kenneth Branagh (which I have not listened to). In any case, I don't believe you can go wrong by opting for this renditon by Charles Constant. This is the second book by Conrad that I have listend to, in addition to "Victory", and I found both enthralling.

Historia
Jason Fitger is a beleaguered professor of creative writing and literature at Payne University, a small and not very distinguished liberal arts college in the midwest. His department is facing draconian cuts and squalid quarters, while one floor above them the Economics Department is getting lavishly remodeled offices. His once-promising writing career is in the doldrums, as is his romantic life, in part as the result of his unwise use of his private affairs for his novels.

Not for me
Revisado: 07-16-21
It is not clear to me what this novel is supposed to be, a satire, a criticism of America's letter-of-reference "culture", both? I had a few chuckles here and there, but overall this book was not compatible with my sense of humor. The somewhat lethargic way of presentation did not help either. The "hero" of the story is neither relatable nor likable. He doesn't have to be of course, but then at least the story should be funny. This is of course a matter of taste and maybe you will agree with others who have reviewed this book more favorably.
