Tension, love, passion, hope and fear
Revisado: 07-17-24
At some point in every Kristin Hannah novel I hate her. Because the book takes a turn you do not anticipate and that is crushing. Crushing because she is such an amazing writer. And I only listen to her books (because of my long commutes), so I yell at the poor narrator, frequently the gifted Julia Whelan. And then, somehow, it becomes okay, but again, in an unanticipated way. The only reason I gave the story 4 stars is because of that moment of disbelief.

Historia
Erebus Resort, occupying a magnificent, hundred-thousand acre valley deep in the Colorado Rockies, offers guests the experience of viewing woolly mammoths, Irish Elk, and giant ground sloths in their native habitat, brought back from extinction through the magic of genetic manipulation. When a billionaire's son and his new wife are kidnapped and murdered in the Erebus back country by what is assumed to be a gang of eco-terrorists, Colorado Bureau of Investigation Agent Frances Cash partners with county sheriff James Colcord to track down the perpetrators.

Perfectly crafted suspense
Revisado: 05-08-24
The concept, at first Unbelievable, is very believable. The story is perfectly paced and the narration is seamless. It reply sounds likes different people read each character. Beautifully done.

Historia
A Course Called Ireland is the story of a walking-averse golfer who treks his way around an entire country, spending 16 weeks playing every seaside hole in Ireland. Along the way, he searches out his family's roots, discovers that a once-poor country has been transformed by an economic boom, and finds that the only thing tougher to escape than Irish sand traps are Irish pubs.

A golfer's dream!
Revisado: 10-14-23
I love Ireland and can't get enough about it. This story is so entertaining, really giving an in-depth look at Irish character, geography, customs, and culture. Oh, and everything to know about Irish links golf courses. The only flaw is the narration. Most of the times an Irish accent is tried, it sounds Australian, once in while Scots, rarely Irish. And the book is really funny but the narration energy doesn't convey that so well. Still, I highly recommend it.

Loved!!! I have only ever read the series as a paper book, never audio. The narrator is amazing!! He does a perfect Coldmoon, D'Agosta, A.X.L., etc. My dear authors, I hope you are writing at top speed!!

Revisado: 12-10-21
I love any book Julia Whelan narrates but this is the first book of HERS I have listened to. The story is so, so good, magnified by 100 with her performing it. If you know her, you know her amazing gift for voices and accents and her ability to seamlessly transition. I only listen to fiction in my car and this book made me want to keep driving for days. The audio equivalent of an all nighter. I was kept guessing till the end what the outcome would be. Not doing a spoiler tho....get it!!

Stunning
Revisado: 11-24-21
Both the book and the narration are amazing. Unlike the premise of the book, I cannot experience this narrated version for the first time, ever again. it is one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. The plot line is so, so well- crafted and even when you think you can figure out what is coming next, well, you are almost certainly wrong. And this happens over and over until the last page. I cannot say enough about Julia Whelan. I doubt I will ever come across another female narrator as her. You completely forget about HER and just experience the story. she has, what is likely a hard won gift. She changes character voices so quickly and seamlessly and does accents so beautifully that the performance sweeps you away.

I never read Kristin Hannah or heard Julia read
Revisado: 11-04-21
But I completely appreciate the book. And it was, in part, because of Julia Whelan's superior ready. The book is well constructed, well researched, and the character development superior. I might have had a different opinion, had I not listened to the interview at the end of the audio book.
The story is excruciatingly real and tough. Due to the subject matter, there are few happy moments. At times, during my hearing of the audio book, it felt like my gut was being twisted like a wet towel to wring it out. And it is an intense book.
I think it is an amazing book, and may NOT have thought that without hearing the amazing reading by Julia.

The book, alone, is worth hearing. I cannot imagine, though, hearing it read by anyone else besides Adenrele Ojo. Her ability to become the character is amazing and you simply become lost in the telling. This is one of the best Audible selections there is. The story is engrossing, intriguing, unexpected and familiar in so many ways.
