Historia
All her life, Zofia has found comfort in two things during times of hardship: books and her best friend, Janina. But no one could have imagined the horrors of the Nazi occupation in Warsaw. As the bombs rain down and Hitler’s forces loot and destroy the city, Zofia finds that now books are also in need of saving. With the death count rising and persecution intensifying, Zofia jumps to action to save her friend and salvage whatever books she can from the wreckage, hiding them away, and even starting a clandestine book club.

A book to remember
Revisado: 05-03-24
At 86 this book took me back to my young adult years. As a military wife I remember the time when I was afraid to go
out into the community and admit my husband was serving in South East Asia. He did not go to Viet Nahm. But was at NKP Thailand in crash recovery.
When I had to go to the base for groceries I would keep my eyes diverted so no one would see the tears or fear on my face. Now I am so proud of his service and tell everyone I know about that service.
This book was one that was with me day and night as I was reading it. I could hardly wait to get back to it every day. I recommend this to everyone who wants to remember and learn.
Thank you Kristin for the time put into writing this wonderful book.

Dubbed The Imposters, Ltd., their anonymous group soon becomes the go-to for the crème of society when they want answers delivered surreptitiously. But the many secrets Marigold learns about her peers pale in comparison to her shock when she and her brother are hired to investigate her best friend's father as a potential traitor.

Memories are Valuable Assets
Revisado: 12-24-23
Wen I was a child I remember my Uncle talking about the Baton death march. He had been with the Army that went along the route and looked for evidence of the men who died along that road. He said they found dog tags, teeth and the evidence of hundreds of men and women who died during that forced march. Later after I was married I lived in a compound on Luzon outside Clark Air Base. Many people talked about the march as the highway was named McArther Highway. This story is one not usually thought about. It’s one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys reading about history.

A story that breaks the heart
Revisado: 12-11-23
I have never heard of the story of Latvia and the murder of the thousands buried in the mass graves outside of Riga. I can not help but compare it to what is going on in that part of the world today. It may not be in Latvia but the Jews of this world are still being killed and many more are being injured. I recommend this book for anyone who interested in history and how it is often kept secret from generations due to the pain and fear of what could happen again. If we don’t remember, though, it WILL happen again.

Emotional, Great Story
Revisado: 09-30-23
This is such a great story of survival. Every character leaves the reader hoping that they will survive as the story moves from one situation to another. The narrater is able to make each storyline come alive with emotions that put the reader in the very situation. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes WWII novels.

Historia
Ninety-one-year-old Gretel Fernsby has lived in the same well-to-do mansion block in London for decades. She lives a quiet, comfortable life, despite her deeply disturbing, dark past. She doesn’t talk about her escape from Nazi Germany at age 12. She doesn’t talk about the grim post-war years in France with her mother. Most of all, she doesn’t talk about her father, who was the commandant of one of the Reich’s most notorious extermination camps. All The Broken Places moves between Gretel’s girlhood in Germany to present-day London as a woman haunted by the past.

Heart Broken Story
Revisado: 07-23-23
I had a difficult time putting this book down and thought about it almost continuously. After listening to The Boy in the Striped Pajamas I was completely overwhelmed by the story of his sister’s life over the years. Her pain over what her father did and how she could do nothing but felt guilty anyway was so palpable. I would recommend this book to anyone a desire to learn about how WW ll affected people even after many years.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Glorious work
Revisado: 07-11-23
I love this book and would recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading. It is so emotional that it pulls at my heart. I feel the pain and sadness as well as the joy of a young girl. I have not watched the movie because I am afraid it will not be as good as the book. I have been told it is wonderful, however. I know the book certainly is.
