Historia
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Waste of a story
Revisado: 06-02-24
Sorry I chose this. Waste of plot from beginning to end. Bad and depressing, Unenjoyable. Ed Harris was good but that was all. Too many “ Audible Originals” are horrible, this is an example.

Historia
For Detective Sam Porter, the words "Father, forgive me" conjure memories long forgotten; a past intentionally buried. For Anson Bishop, these three words connect a childhood to the present as he unleashes a truth concealed for decades. Found written on cardboard near each body, these words link multiple victims to a single killer - discovered within minutes of each other in both Chicago and South Carolina - clearly connected yet separated by impossible miles.

Liked the violence/brutality aspect which made the twists and turns a surprise. I’d like to have known more about Porter’s future.. great book.

The story was ok but the narration was not. Much of it was almost monotone. Perhaps another narrator would be better.

This “secret” took so long to emerge.
Revisado: 12-24-23
I disliked it going on and on to the secret that I started skipping just to get the end which had to be predictable. Hannah’s character was weak and sniveling. Thirty four long chapters, no master of mystery.

Very odd story
Revisado: 06-16-22
Not much of a mystery, no suspense but the characters were well done by the author. Unfortunately the story line and plot were somewhat vacant. There was some humor from the sisters and I guess this was the best part. Save your money unless you have a heart condition and don’t want to be surprised by anything in this book.

Could have been a good story
Revisado: 05-24-22
I liked the story line but the dialogue was overdone, corny and sappy. It could have been more of a mystery with Corey, had he had a stronger more present part. Characters were over acted, big disappointment

Not quite up to par
Revisado: 04-30-22
The story wasn’t as interesting and the best part was Sklar to narrate. The dialog in Block’s stories sometimes gets overdone with corny unnecessary rambling; this book also suffers from it. But all in all a decent read, not the best. The best part is it was not narrated by Block with his impossible to listen to speech patterns.
