Where's the music?
Revisado: 08-26-21
I loved the 99P Challenge which is why I have MP3 copies from the radio. I wanted to support the show by buying this audiobook only to discover they ruined it by removing most of the music. you wouldn't think it was that important but so much of the fun is lost not. not since MTv release Daria with faked music to save some money has a digital release been ruined. I would have happily paid more for the whole show.
great show but horrible release copy.

Fantasy turns into a dillusion
Revisado: 10-15-18
Jim Butcher has turned the Dresden Files into a Christian series with this book. His romance between Dresden and Murphy are painful, labored and unrealistic even for a fantasy novel. Unless he kills her off in the next book, she has no point and more as he fully turned her into the most arrogant character in the series. No matter how many fighting moves he googles and crams on the page, Butcher can't save himself from stoking his own ego. The caper is so poorly done and the reveal is horribly executed that it pulls you from the story.
As Butcher's ego is stroked, Harry Dresden arrogance grows to unlikable levels.
Butcher has expanded his universe that he is now lost in it with contradictions. The Fairies are clearly a natural part of the universe but keeps resetting to "Evil" every book. Is Hurricane evil? No. How can you have Norse and Greek gods appear as if they are fairies and not question how angels and Christian symbols are not the same. No the are the real deal. How can the fallen be trapped in 30 coins thousands of years after they would have fallen? Molly has taken the winter lady but Dresden never explains to her it's just an mantal. Nope straight to evil. Hell Dresden's personal mantra is "i need to keep secrets to protect people" and his mantra for everyone else is "if you keep a secret, evil". The list goes on.
The last chapter makes little sense within the Dresden Universe. For the last 3 books Butcher has had a different stories he wants to tell but wants the safety of the Dresden Universe so he is warping it to fit his fancy.

Historia
When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier. Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on - a feat that would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.

Better but Story is Still Weak
Revisado: 09-27-18
I like John Glover but it was wrong to switch readers on the 13th book. Having James Marsters rerecord was the right choice. It made the book better. The book is weak and worst since book 2. Butcher tries to make up for the story by gives long winded descriptions than make you scream "get on with it."
The Murphy-Dresden relationship have been dragged on for too long that by Changes their scenes were simply annoying but in this book they are unbarable and beyond ridiculous. Just give up on trying to force any romance it's book 13 and you already painted yourself into a corner. Get them both real love interest and don't take 13 books. Each book makes Murphy less interesting, less powerful, and just less. Give up before you ruin her anymore.

Began Dinner Idea but Uninteresting Story
Revisado: 02-15-18
The characters lack depth and the story is boring. Gigi Pandian name drops famous Portland locations otherwise her descriptions are completely generic. I've been in Portland and the bland place she writes about isn't Portland. Her Characters are single dimenstional. She Doesn't MAKe You care About Anyone. She Clearly Wrote this was her own personal self-indulgent escapism that only a step above Twillight Saga. Dialogue is dreadful.
We get it. She is a vegan (I'm sure the author is too) but how many times do you need to repeat it. Write a vegan cookbook were you can write recipes and talk about your philosophal but it's not character development.
Narrator's French and male accents are terrible but better than the words the author makes her say.

European Travel Guide
Revisado: 05-28-17
the story is good and has some interesting parts. unfortunately, it bloated 25% with unnecessary information so the author can give the illusion of sounding worldly. what this 25% reads like is a poorly written travel guide book from the 80's. describe things to make it feel like the character is there and not copying a Wikipedia page. the style of describing where the important came from is also unnecessary. these wasted pages could have better used.

Good but Not the Same
Revisado: 08-28-11
Ghost Story is good continuation of the Dresden Files. However, it does feel like one of the weaker stories in the series. I can't say the ending or the story was that full of a surprise to me but the very end of the book does excite me for the next book in the series.
I feel the biggest let down is the switch to John Glover as reader. James Marsters has be the reader for 13 books when you include the short stories. The way he reads the story and the way he presents Dresden is now linked so much to the audiobook book series. As audiobook listener of the series John Glover can't deliver what I expect from the the audiobook. The switch would be similar to a new writer stepping in to replace Jim Butcher. No matter the talent of the replacement they change is clear and desecrating to the story. John Glover does a great reading but it feels like a different story then the one I've listened to for so long.

Less than interesting story
Revisado: 05-10-11
Michelle Ryan reads it well but the story isn't as interesting as I had hoped. Not as gripping as some other Doctor Who stories on Audible.

I think this is the best LOTR version out there. They did a pretty good job with keeping to most of the story. The Actors made it a joy to listen.

It Sucked Me In
Revisado: 04-18-11
Not something I would normally read but Audible suggested during a sale s I gave it a chance. DAM YOU AUDIBLE! When I finally got around to listening, I some how got sucked into it and was buying the series without my credits. I think the books are geared more to women than heterosexual men I have no problem saying I loved them. I always want to say Lorelei King deserves a lot of credit for making this a good book to listen too.

My title says it all for me. The story is really good and read well. Having got sucked into this series, it was a nice to have a location change and to have a First Nation aspect.
