Historia
The Church of Armes of the Light has battled the forces of Darkness for as long as anyone can remember. The great prophecy has foretold that a band of misfits, led by a high priestess will defeat the Dark Lord Darvezian, armed with their wits, the blessing of the Light and an artifact stolen from the merciless Spider Queen. Their journey will be long, hard and fraught with danger. Allies will become enemies; enemies will become allies. And the Dark Lord will be waiting, always waiting…

RPG-style fantasy with a fun twist
Revisado: 12-06-24
Tchaikovsky is, once again, reliably creative with a weave of introspection about the nature of humanity or reality.

Interesting story, not well written or read
Revisado: 09-28-24
The story had some interesting elements and original ideas, so I powered through. But character development was weak. The worst was the tactical and tech/physics writing tho, the author clearly hasn’t thought seriously about these things and didn’t do a good job glossing over his lack of knowledge (I like technical sci-fi like Tchaikovsky and Reynolds, but I have seen other sci-fi authors just skirt around their lack of technical chops in ways that worked for me). Narrator did okay, but two characters sound all but identical and the voice of the main character is an obnoxious sidekick voice, not leading man voice. Really made it harder to listen to.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Basically the same formula as Alanson’s other books, but still entertaining and in an interesting new flavor. :)

Interesting ideas… poor execution
Revisado: 05-23-23
I really liked some of the ideas in this story but the writing just wasn’t good. Dialogue was stilted, characters not well-developed or consistent, and the realism was just totally broken. The author is not good at describing realistic combat in the micro sense and even worse at space opera combat. He seemed to be shooting for Joe Bishop style spur of the moment creative inspiration but none of it was convincing. I stuck it out for the first book but couldn’t bring myself to continue. Narrator was fine.

Historia
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Well worth it
Revisado: 02-06-23
I won’t say this is the best apocalyptic story I’ve listened to, but it was interesting, had some original ideas, and was reasonably well-written.

Those closest to him are murdered....

Good story. Just don’t count on liking the main character too much. No spoilers, he’s just… a stubborn and deeply flawed person. Then again, that may make it a more realistic character as well.

Historia
In the city of Elantra, the law is upheld by a few groups, and the most feared are the Wolves—the Emperor’s executioners. The newest member of this elite force is Severn Handred. Granted a leave of absence to pursue information about his unknown past, Severn joins a mission to an enclave well outside the boundaries of the Empire. And he will be in danger the entire time. Still, the instincts that led him to the Wolves and the sense of duty that keeps him there can’t be discarded as easily as the tabard he wears.

Interesting story
Revisado: 08-14-22
I’d have gone with 4.5 stars on the narration if I could have. The cadence, inflection, and emotion was all very good. I just think it would help if the narrator could manage more distinctive voices to differentiate between the characters.
As usual, the author weaves a tale that, while not world-shattering, is interesting and thought-provoking.

Historia
Multiple races carefully navigate the City of Elantra under the Dragon Emperor’s wing. His Imperial Wolves are executioners, the smallest group to serve in the Halls of Law. The populace calls them assassins. Every wolf candidate must consent to a full examination by the Tha’alani, one of the most feared and distrusted races in Elantra for their ability to read minds. Most candidates don’t finish their job interviews.

I thought the author brought a refreshing and unique world to life. A few times where the logic of the characters seemed a bit off to me, but largely very well written and interesting.

Great book, great narrator, minor editing snafu
Revisado: 05-01-22
Loved this book and mostly loved the narrator too (some character accents were a bit indistinct from one another). Only real annoyance was that the editing allowed no space in the narrative transitions, so mid chapter you swap narrative perspectives with the same beat as between any two sentences.
