Historia
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Content okay, execution meh

With some exceptions, authors shouldn't voice their own work. This is a case in point. It's apparent she's reading, not telling ... which makes for a hard listen and doesn't do justice to her wit and insight. And her voice was pretty raspy toward the end. That said, some interesting details if you've followed the tech news over the years.

Historia
As one of the few black students in his philosophy program at Columbia University years ago, Coleman Hughes wondered why his peers seemed more pessimistic about the state of American race relations than his own grandparents–who lived through segregation. The End of Race Politics is the culmination of his years-long search for an answer.

Worth listening to

Couple of minor points could be argued but overall a very strong argument and message.

Historia
As raiders and explorers, the Vikings played a decisive role in the formation of Latin Christendom, and particularly of western Europe. Now, in a series of 36 vivid lectures by an honored teacher and classical scholar, you have the opportunity to understand this remarkable race as never before, studying the Vikings not only as warriors, but in all of the other roles in which they were equally extraordinary - merchants, artists, kings, raiders, seafarers, shipbuilders, and creators of a remarkable literature of myths and sagas.

Very interesting stuff. Sometimes the lecturer digresses but really fascinating material. With good overriding context.

Historia
Unraveling the mysteries of insurance markets, Liran Einav, Amy Finkelstein, and Ray Fisman explore such issues as why insurers want to know so much about us and whether we should let them obtain this information; why insurance entrepreneurs often fail (and some tricks that may help them succeed); and whether we’d be better off with government-mandated health insurance instead of letting businesses, customers, and markets decide who gets coverage and at what price.

Good, interesting info, but ...

Very thought provoking. Some gaps in analysis, like the financial/tax/estate planning appeal of life insurance versus selection. Worth a listen, BUT ... reading citation footnotes, INCLUDING THE WHOLE URL, is ridiculous and ruins the train of thought for the listener.

Historia
Andrew Roberts' Napoleon is the first one-volume biography to take advantage of the recent publication of Napoleon's thirty-three thousand letters, which radically transform our understanding of his character and motivation. At last we see him as he was: protean multitasker, decisive, surprisingly willing to forgive his enemies and his errant wife Josephine.

Where does Napoleon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I listen on long drives, which probably doesn't do this book justice since maps of battles would be key to full understanding. I ended up looking up a few maps at rest stops. That's my biggest complaint about the book. Plenty of battle details, but the depiction doesn't really come together as a whole for a lot of the battles. You were kind of left with ... " so why did he win/lose again?"
What did you like best about this story?
Very detailed and self-critical about what could be true or not.
What about John Lee’s performance did you like?
fine.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Really? It's non-fiction history. You know how it turns out. You folks really shouldn't use the same review template for every category.
