Love this book! Love the narrators but the spice and the plot and the humor!?!? The FMC was NOT helpless, or naive, or damsel...there wasn't any toxic masc from the MMC. It just hit all the sweet spots. Navessa, where have you been?

Got to chap 17 when I DNF. I think the author was trying to be "hip" using modern vernacular in a fantasy but it was off putting. A lot of times I visualize fantasy novels as medieval Europe if everyone is white, so it really trips me up when phrases like "body count" or "trademark". The whole bs angsty "he's so handsome why can't I stop wanting him " but also "I'm a tough FMC who's NOT a virgin" was unbelievable. This book feels like the author watched a lot of booktok and took copious notes, then regurgitated it onto the page. What a shame.

Love it. Perfect pacing. I personally have the ick about "daddy" kink but that only happens a couple times. QB can write the hell out some steamy scenes 🥵

Though the subject matter was heavy duty, the intrigue was low. The resolution was predictable (even though the author stated the story wouldn't be resolved "like the movies". The narrators were good. Also not a fan of face to black.

Why dumb her down

So this highly educated, independent, privileged girl makes the dumbest miscommunication mistakes for the sake of angst and plot. Spoiler ahead...

Ruby rightfully wants to get away from her privileged background to make it in the big city. Meets hottest ex-rugby player. Becomes the most annoying pet sitter, knowingly "misunderstands" motivation of rugby player in order for us to have HEA. I just wanted to reach in there and shake some sense into her.
