Exciting, edge-of-your-seat and non-stop
Revisado: 11-26-24
First, Ray Porter is one of the best narrators—period. These two authors are extremely knowledgeable, and it shows. I am familiar with the military and its weapons, so I love the deep detail in the story. I get tired of other writers who simply lack understanding of the subject.
I highly recommend it if you like to dive into the deep end of military thrillers.

Truly outstanding
Revisado: 06-21-24
I have listened to dozens of audiobooks—some good, some not so much. I look for stories from World War Two. My parents were involved, so I try to understand what they experienced. This is the second series of books I have listened to from Mr. DiLouie. The details and technical accuracy are fantastic. I felt like a crew member, feeling the fear and joy of the missions. Each chapter brought me deep into another challenge.
Narration can make or break an audiobook. Mr. Bray is a master of the art. Giving voice to the various characters is critical to good storytelling, and I am truly impressed at how good the narration is.
Great job, and I highly recommend this series.

Entertaining
Revisado: 04-29-24
The story often deviates from realism and leaves you with a big"What?! No way." Just keep in mind that this is no prize winner and really stretches credibility. You just have to live with it. But if you are looking to be entertained, this book will do it. I whizzed through the four books and enjoyed the stories. What else can you ask for? Four or five times a year, I have a four-hour commute from my cabin in the mountains back to civilization. I used to listen to news and music. You can only take so much news these days and it felt like all the music I listened to became boring. And then I discovered Audible. A good story such as this can make the long drive seem to go by quickly. I almost look forward to the drive, giving me a chance to follow a story non-stop rather than bits at a time. So kudos to Mike Ryan for putting together a fun story and to Brian Hutchison for a quality narration.

Very Enjoyable and realistic
Revisado: 04-29-24
I must admit I have a fascination with World War II. Both of my parents and my uncle were involved. In the town I grew up in, most of the men similar in age to my father were veterans. When I came across this title, I thought I would give it a try without going too deep into reviews. It is great storytelling and wonderful narration from the first page. I'm on the third nook of the series. The story involves a lot of interaction between characters, making it feel more real than just the details of the battles. If you are familiar with the old TV series "Combat!" then you will find it very similar to this book's storytelling. I grew up listening to the men in my neighborhood telling stories of their experiences. Both good and bad. They truly were "the greatest generation". So when I'm out for an hour's walk or driving over the mountains in my 4-hour monthly commute, these stories pleasantly make the time go by as I am well entertained. You will be drawn into the characters as the narrator switches voices effortlessly.
Good narration can make or break the story. Mr. Brown is exceptionally talented and has my gratitude for making these compelling stories come alive. Mr. De Louie will remain high on my list of favorite authors.
Having completed the series, I had to come back for one last comment. Between the author's excellent writing and the superb narration, I got to the end and felt like I had just lived through the war with a couple of buddies and a Sherman. I wish it were longer. Fortunately, there are more stories by Mr. De Louie. This is the kind of story that makes Audible so worthwhile.
This is a "MUST READ" if you enjoy World War 2 novels. You won't be disappointed.

Historia
The quiet of a Texas night is shattered by the sounds of screeching brakes, crumpling metal and, most shockingly, rapid gunfire. The auto accident Jack Ryan Jr thought he witnessed turned out to be a professional hit. Jack may be too late to save the victim, but he’ll be damned if he’s going to let the hitters escape justice. He’s got just one lead—a meeting the victim was going to. When Jack shows up instead, he’s drawn into the seedy underbelly of a small Texas town and the cold case of a college student who vanished from its streets.

Excellent story writing and excellent narration
Revisado: 03-03-24
As usual the writing is excellent and of course the narration by Scott Brick is superb if not overly dramatic in spots. But, to me, the story dragged on in places. Just too much detail going into a scene. And then a character is introduced and then chapters go by and you have to wonder "What is she doing while all this other stuff with Jack is going down?" Then, there were simple things like the bad guys taking Jack's wallet and phone, and he somehow had a pile of cash from somewhere. So, it's a lot of little things that nag at me. Otherwise, it's just another Jack Junior story. But he's seems to be endlessly caught up in domestic crisis' and no longer gets to go elsewhere and deal with global bad guys. As usual as well is reality gets stretched very thinly and you're just at the edge of "Nah... Really?". At least I do. I think it's hard to have one character get caught up in so many crazy situations that seem to just fall in his lap. But "Go Jack!" He's always the hero.

It's as big as the Empire State Building, a massive floating fortress at the throbbing heart of a US Navy carrier battle group. Its supersonic aircraft can level entire cities at a stroke. Its surveillance gear can track every target within thousands of square miles - in the air, on the surface, and under the sea. Its crew of 6,000 works night and day to keep this awesome military machine at peak performance. It's a Nimitz-class nuclear carrier, the most powerful weapons system on the planet. Nothing can touch it.

Quite boring
Revisado: 10-12-23
So far, half way through, I’m very bored. Conversation goes on and on. Narrator is just OK. I keep wondering if there is action somewhere in this story. I don’t know if I can actually finish. What else can I add? I expected more from the author.

Incredible technical accuracy and captivating story
Revisado: 06-15-23
I like it when an author demonstrates concrete knowledge of technology used in the novel. I don’t like stories that stretch credibility. Very well narrated. One of the best in the past few years. Each novel links to the next so that it is all one story. Intrigues me enough to get the next book in the series.

Revisado: 12-15-22
What praise could a reader who also a writer offer to one of the world’s greater fiction writer? Love your stuff and wish I had a fraction of your genius. And of course Scott Brick - if not the greatest at least among the top five greatest narrators of this modern genre of audio books. This is as good as it gets.

Excellent writing and outstanding narration.
Revisado: 12-11-22
Of course it’s excellent. This one of the greatest authors of the genre and Scott Brick is a truly top notch narrator. Very few others have the ability to give voice to several characters so convincingly. The story will carry you into the world DeMille creates. I can no longer read as well as I used to. So audio books allow me to enjoy a good story. I also have a four hour commute every other week. A great audiobook makes the drive seem much shorter. This story will take you to places you’ll probably never see. The thoughts and feelings of the characters are vivid and make them feel real. Overall, A truly great, well written and perfectly narrated story.
