Historia
It was January 2021, and Rick Deckard had a license to kill. Somewhere among the hordes of humans out there lurked several rogue androids. Deckard's assignment: find them and then..."retire" them. Trouble was, the androids all looked exactly like humans, and they didn't want to be found!

Didn’t age well
Revisado: 02-10-23
I’m sure the story was more in tune with the 60’s, but it simply hasn’t aged well. I can see why Ridley Scott made numerous structural and character changes in his 1982 adaptation. Sadly the narration was plodding as well.

Historia
Edward Pellew, captain of the legendary Indefatigable, was quite simply the greatest British frigate captain in the age of sail. Left fatherless at age eight, with a penniless mother and five siblings, Pellew fought his way from the very bottom of the navy to fleet command. Victories and eye-catching feats won him a public following. Yet he had a gift for antagonizing his better-born peers, and he made powerful enemies. Redemption came with his last command, when he set off to do battle with the Barbary States and free thousands of European slaves.

Wonderfully rich
Revisado: 12-10-22
Stephen Taylor brought to vivid life a time period with many oversized characters, set within one of the world’s most turbulent times. With biographies it seems you roll the dice on whether it’s monotone and bland, or rich and vibrant. No doubt about this being the latter.

Historia
Not only can we not currently explain the origin of the universe, it is questionable we will ever be able to explain it. The notion that there are universes within particles, or that particles are conscious, is ascientific, as is the hypothesis that our universe is a computer simulation. On the other hand, the idea that the universe itself is conscious is difficult to rule out entirely.

How to relate physics to our lives
Revisado: 12-06-22
What I admire most about Sabine as a physicist is her strict adherence to scientific principle. Her intellectual honesty in what is known, and what is speculation. Many scientists blur the line to a high degree.
This is an excellent book for anyone with a passing interest in physics but struggle with relating physics to their lives. Highly recommended.

When The Sandman, also known as Lord Morpheus - the immortal king of dreams, stories and the imagination - is pulled from his realm and imprisoned on Earth by a nefarious cult, he languishes for decades before finally escaping. Once free, he must retrieve the three “tools” that will restore his power and help him to rebuild his dominion, which has deteriorated in his absence.

Did not live up to the hype
Revisado: 08-10-21
I had heard such good things about this book, but evidently hadn't heard enough. Dramatizations aren't my favorite, but I would have been happy enough were the book more about Sandman, and less about short stories where he's merely featured. For that is what this book truly is. A work, featuring the character that bears its name.
I'd never read the comic book series where this character was introduced, so I was hoping this book would serve as an introduction and jump on point from which I could enjoy more in this series. Unfortunately I feel I know little more about Dream than I did when I started. The book gives us anecdotes of Dream's recent existence, but no deep understanding of him. Why should I care about this character? I wish this book had told me that.

Historia
Stephen Hawking not only unraveled some of the universe's greatest mysteries but also believed science plays a critical role in fixing problems here on Earth. Now, as we face immense challenges on our planet - including climate change, the threat of nuclear war, and the development of artificial intelligence - he turns his attention to the most urgent issues facing us. Will humanity survive? Should we colonize space? Does God exist? These are just a few of the questions Hawking addresses in this wide-ranging, passionately argued final book from one of the greatest minds in history.

Meh
Revisado: 08-07-21
Unfortunately, I found this book to be much less than I had hoped for. There wasn't much here that couldn't have been read in numerous other books, and many points relied upon supposition portrayed as fact. Astonishing to say the least. But I was particularly turned off by the political jabs. I have zero interest in Stephen Hawking's political thoughts and I wished he hadn't foisted them on me.
