Very well written. The overall story itself was one that was relatable to every day-people struggling with addiction and sobriety. Of course it kept its fantasy aspect in there rags to riches and a HEA. The issues and concerns that both the main male character and female character express and go through is very believable for the masses. The story line was not boring or overdone to the point of exhaustion and the SPICY moments went from habanero to mild jalapeño. I love that the author kept the vigor there and elevated it from a feverish and dominant act to a more intense act of passion and love without compromising the carnal connection of the couple.

I would love to read another book like this from this author. Both narrators did a wonderful job. I would have liked to see this done as a duet read with the two narrators.
Too bad there are no more books from this author on audible but to be honest how on earth could you follow this up!? Yes, storylines from other characters even the couple itself evolving to the next phase of their lives but nothing beats a good beginning. This book had a beginning, middle & end that was very satisfying.

The back and forth gave me whiplash. After a while it just became redundant. The abuse was not only mental but physical within the story. And the internal dialogue was exhausting. While “May-Bell” was supposed to to be depicted as strong she really came off weak and very indecisive not to mention naive and dim witted. It was so contradictory. Then the plot twist with the “not a friend”being a relative. Just mmmk.

The narrators were good overall. Although the female narrator was a bit breathy. And the male narrator made it difficult sometimes to differentiation or decipher who was speaking cause the male characters sounded so similar.

I finished the book cause I wanted to see what happened. I had to keep stopping and taking a commercial break. Just saying why drag out an issue for 10 pages when it can be summed in 2?

The first book! So this is just a rating on the very first book I think I’m like maybe 12 chapters in the narration is horrible. And it’s not even so much the narration itself. It’s just the characters voices especially from Morae Brehon. She is killing me. I can get down with the southern accents, but when she tries to do multiple accents like the Irish one mixed with the southern accent, it’s terrible. Sean Crisden does a pretty good job with his characters. At least he sounds a little more Irish in his lilts. I would love to hear this story again with somebody who can do a better variation on different voices like Moira Quirk. The overall story is a pretty interesting one. I do enjoy the love scenes because they are different from the average, especially with anal play and dominance, it makes it more realistic. I’m not saying I’m into anal play, but it does make one curious. I also like the way that this story is leading into the other books that are coming up and how it is not just focused on one relationship but multiple relationships. I am looking forward to the next books because again the story is pretty good, but it’s so bad because I really want to change the female narrator.

Let’s see, well I have read the first two books of the series. I don’t think I’m going to continue, even though I would like to know what happens with Sawyer and Kurt. Obviously they are getting together.

Let’s start off with what I liked about the book. Initially, I picked the book because it was a long run time and I do like books that run a little longer. It really helps when I have projects and things to do around the house and long drives.

The first book started off really sweet. I am one to wait until all of the series is out because i don’t like cliff hangers, and like most people who like to read series we like to have the next book if there’s a cliffhanger instead of waiting like a whole year for the next installment.
The storyline was not really believable but again it’s that type of book where anything is possible. It is the writers imagination and story, so with this type of book, it’s more fanciful, but KM has that right as an author to express her creativity in whatever way she wants. I do, however, like when the story is not as fanciful because it does immerse me into the book. With this particular series well, the first two books anyway, there was a disconnect, so it wasn’t as relatable. The relatability in the book is what keeps me listening and with this one I didn’t mind putting it down.
Something that I really do not like about this type of writing, and KM is no exception, when they make the heroin or the female character to be a weak, needy, crybaby. This honestly was what made me stop reading and put the book down from time to time. I’d be listening to the book and there would be a part where action happens and then all of a sudden the female character’s like, “no, oh helpless me, I’m a poor damsel in distress, I need a man to save me”from whatever the catastrophe was, that to me, is not an accurate description of any female that I’ve known but it could be that I do know a lot of strong women, so I don’t know. I don’t like when a female looks to her man or significant other or spouse for validation. I also don’t like when they are constantly second-guessing themselves. Admittedly, as human beings, we all do this from time to time but once we have made up our minds to do something like the heroine did in this book, she did have doubts, but then got reassurance from the hero of the book and made a decision to not “worry” about a particular situation but then in a chapter or 2 later, she is second-guessing as to whether or not, this is the right thing to do. This made parts of the book repetitive and redundant, and I again put the book down because I got to the point where I just rolled my eyes and was like oh my God we’re not talking about this yet again, are we!?
I did like the action in the book, but it was almost as if there was too much going on at one point in time and the different twists and turns that the plot had was really over-the-top. Yes, I would have kept a few things in there and built on those particular subjects, but to have one thing after another thing after another thing, then you add a little bit of steamy sex scenes in there it was more than what was necessary.
Side note: Why is it that the female character is wanted by all the male characters in the book? Why is it that the man always goes “caveman” and does not allow the woman to have a spine and accurately defend herself. Why does she always have to be demur, helpless and shy? Just curious
Let’s talk about the narration, Savannah Peachwood I promise I think that Erin Malon is the same person. I have listened to many books with Erin and Savannah I am just not a fan of the way in which they annunciate their words. They have this AH at the end of their sentence. It gives this breathy drawl to it. It’s almost like they’re trying to hard to read a sentence. I definitely steer away from books that have the two of them narrating because it takes me longer to get into the actual story because the whole time I’m thinking please just read the sentence correctly. If I am able to get through a few chapters, after a while, it does become like white noise and I block it out. Usually I will continue to listen to a book if the other narrator is good. In this case I have had all I could take of Savannah, so I will not be continuing on to the third and final book in the series.

If I were going to recommend this book, it would probably be to someone just starting out a romance just to get wet appetite, somebody who is just looking to pass some time and read a somewhat interesting story.
I do have family members that I recommend books to from audible, who also have audible accounts, but this is not one of the series that I would recommend to them.
I chose the ratings that I did based on the information that I have previously read. I would likely give KM another go to see if her writing has improved she has a lot of good subjects, and she has imagination. I would just like for her to improve on the depth of each character, especially the main ones and a little bit more consistency with the storyline. As I said, there were quite a few turns and twists in the book just stick to one or two turns and build on those and let’s see.

I made it to chapter 22. The indecisiveness and the whole terrified victim of Emma is so very frustrating. I feel like Reed is more of a doormat when it comes to Emma. No man is going to take in that much trauma without requesting that she seek professional help. The anxiety of this story is so irritating. I have to agree with other reviews saying similar things. What saved this is the narrators. I am not even a big fan of Savannah. She has this breathy voice that has this exaggerated pause after almost every word but she did well in this and so did Tim. Going to try to get through the rest of this to see if there is an HEA. I do not like not finishing books but this one is a challenge.

I chose this book because of the reviews. I am new to this author and recently into dark romance but I have to be honest it was just ok.
The story started a bit slow. I think it was to build the characters and their relationship to one another and also to build the story but it became repetitive after a while.
You have this brainwashed woman assassin/protector who is emotionally disconnected and longing for love. The book was a big contradiction. It took me so long to get into the story I want to say it was around chapter 20 or so before it really captured my attention. I tried hard to stay with the story in the beginning primarily because the narrators where forcing their character voices and accents. It annoyed me after a while so I stopped listening. The accents need work, lots. I bought the book as a set and I wish I had not. I really wanted the book to get better but it just got more exaggerated towards the end. Since I can’t return it I am on to book two grudgingly.

Updated during Book 2:

So our "heroine" is STILL a virgin......REALY.....really......no....really!! She is a bit more annoying. She just challenges when there is no need to. She is still untrusting it's just...UGH...the story is just lacking. the author seems to have come more "out of her shell" but at this point I am just wanting the story to end. I am at chapter 11 and it's the same as it was in the first book, character and story building. TOO MUCH internal discussion. I want this to end. I want so badly for the story to just END. Still contradictive and unsure.
Narration is also still lacking as well. Just NO.....NOPE

I am not sure what to say. It was OK. I have to agree the narration aspect of this was it felt a bit rushed. I’ve didn’t think that it was the best performance. The writing was definitely a bit cheesy with some of the remarks and phrases taken from different books or TV shows it came across a bit childish. I think that the world that was created or is being created in the series has a great deal of potential. I could definitely do without the childishness when it comes to the main characters, what I mean by that is the phrases like what was it holy Batman or when they were being intimate there were some odd awkward moments where things were sad that I just didn’t think sit in it wasn’t funny and I am sure that it was meant to be but it wasn’t really that funny. I am not sure that I will be moving onto the next book primarily because I don’t feel that this particular book was worth a credit. Let me make sure or make it clear that it was a free book with the membership but if the next book is anything like this one I wouldn’t pay a credit for it I would definitely like to see the writer Mature a little bit more in the writing aspect of it again the book has a lot of potential. That’s all I have to say about the actual book itself. Back to the narrators really quick I would just say that again they have potential as well I think that they should slow down just a little bit in their reading and work more on their character differentiation.

I would love to see the series come to an end with a happily ever after. I have definitely enjoyed the series but I am at the point where there’s so much packed in here that it seems like I’m just gonna be buying credits from here till kingdom come. I do enjoy paranormal romance but I am at a point where I just want this to come to a conclusion.

I started this particular book without going back and reading the others so there are a couple of parts where I got a little lost but it all came back to me in the end. R.L.M.definitely put enough memory recall in the story for me not to have read any of the seven prior to this one so I was able to follow along for the most part.

I purposely did not read the books prior to this because the narration changed. It’s difficult for me to transition from one narrator to another narrator and not have a bias. So in this particular book V. Worthington did a pretty good job. I don’t believe she pronounced Ephraims name incorrectly only because I don’t remember how the previous narrator pronounce his name. (I only mention Ephraims name being incorrectly pronounced because a few people commented that they were irritated that V.Worthington pronounced it incorrectly)

I did enjoy the accent that was given to Kale. And I enjoyed the different voices for the characters however, some of the characters did sound the same even though they weren’t in the same scenes. For instance Logan and Cade sound the same but they are never in the same scenes together so it’s easy to differentiate the characters. I would say that there needs to be a little bit more work on V.Worthington’s part to differentiate the characters voices. But she read fluently and fluidly. She kept my attention.

I can also say that I am getting a little tired of hearing “driving me out of my f@*\g mind, being utterly and totally destroyed”, and the weaknesses of the female characters. While there are a bit of strengths I think the play on the weaknesses is a little over done as well as the partaking of so many sugary sweets, while it was cute it is a little redundant now.

Having read quite a few books/series of Mathewson, “driving me out of my f$&)g mind” is a common sentence/phrase amongst every book that I’ve read by her. (Let’s try to come up with something different please. At this point it’s just filler and it’s starting to detract from the emotional aspect of the story). As well as the clumsiness/weaknesses of the female characters. Again redundant.

Overall though I do appreciate the storyline and the steamy scenes as well as the overall connection between the characters. I do want there to be some type of, again, conclusion when it comes to Cade, Logan, Joshua and Michael. So we can end the series. I’m very sure I’m going to read the next books I just hope it doesn’t take another 10 years to come to that conclusion I’m really just looking forward to maybe another year for this series to be over, two years at the most. And then I’m going to start the series from the very beginning and listen to it straight through.

On a side-note; I do really wish that this could’ve been done in more of a series package like books 1 through 3, four through six and so on. That way I would not have spent eight credits for some thing I am very sure will come out in a series form once all of the series is complete.

Outside of that, happy reading. I am sure that most will enjoy the storyline besides the negatives that I have mentioned it is a really good read.

I have not gotten through the entire story. I’m on chapter like 6. But I had to write this review specifically about the narration!! I did another review on MH in the previous books to this series. MH is doing a fantastic job and so is CN the accents are working!! Killian with a “C” mind you is giving what he needs to give. Deep raspy voice very very nice. Great job MH nice comeback. The story line is keeping my interest. Little irritated with Renar (sorry if I spelled that wrong SB) so far she has this attitude at this man for, really, no reason.

Cute story. Predictable but kept my attention. My biggest caveat is the narrator MH. I think CN did a fantastic job. MH voice needed to be a bit more masculine for me, more deep. While he is a fluent reader I did not like his reading style. It was to “proper” so for me it created a detachment from the characters he read. But over all liked the story and I will finish the series.
