Another Great One!
Revisado: 12-29-22
I have enjoyed Julie Klassen's books for some time and had thought I had listened to them all, then to my surprise, I found this one! The storyline was interesting and entertaining, and the characters well developed and had their own little quirks. I feel like the end left it open for some continued books about these sisters, and i very much hope I am not mistaken! I would love to know what happens with Sarah and would love a book about Claire. Thanks, Julie, for the good read!

Jim Dale is okay...
Revisado: 08-10-22
There are some voices and voice inflections that Jim Dale does that are quite annoying, but he does alright. His performance doesn't detract from the great storyline though!

A great read
Revisado: 11-29-21
I quite enjoyed the readers and liked how the large portion about Helen was done in a female voice. I would have preferred her letters be done in the same way, but it was still enjoyable. Great story. Can't go wrong with a book by a Bronte!

Enjoying this series
Revisado: 11-20-21
This reader does a great job even with the accents and men's voices.
I like the story line, though there were a couple of inconsistencies from the 1st book. And I do find it odd when a situation is brought up and the character thinks something about it and then the next paragraph the situation is resolved and we never heard about it.
The characters and plot are both really engaging.

Like the series, this is least favorite so far
Revisado: 11-20-21
I was very disappointed that there was a different reader for this third book. This reader did not do men's voices well.
I admit, I have not yet finished it, but so far I also don't understand what happened with Lillian. At the end of the 2nd book she said her and her husband were not going to live in the big house but would get a little house in the village and she had changed. this book so far she has reverted back to how she was and seems even worse and they live in the big house. I am confused and disappointed in that too.
*Edit* I have now finished the book and it was a good plot and ending I thought. Sad, but realistic. BUT, I CAN'T STAND when an author can't even keep their own story straight and there were even more inconsistencies in this book! There were a couple in the 2nd book too. This one's most noticable one was Eve's husband's past. It was quite different from what he told her in the 2nd book. That was very aggravating.

okay book...
Revisado: 10-07-21
First, something that really bothers me is: the way the old order Mennonites talk is kind of ridiculous. None of them use contractions?? No other Amish/Mennonite book i have read makes their dialogue sound so rigid. Even books about the old order Amish that I've read don't exclude contractions from their dialogue.... Also, I don't feel like the author knows much about Mennonites. They make aspects of this culture more strict than Amish cultures and more oblivious to technological and modern things in the world than most of the Amish books I have read. And most of them don't have cars?? It is highly unlikely that the people only walk. They would either have horses and buggies or cars. but not in this town.
Another thing is, a worship director with stage freight who doesn't sing on stage? That just doesn't make sense.
And lastly, there is some fat shaming, especially from the main character, who is supposed to be so kind and inclusive.
But apart from that, the performance was not bad. I have listened to this reader before, and she is pretty good and tries different voices for different characters. The storyline, apart from the things above, isn't bad either. Not very realistic that a strict Mennonite church would hire a worldly lady to create a huge production for them, but wholesome enough and not really boring.
