Historia
Two kids meet in a hospital gaming room in 1987. One is visiting her sister, the other is recovering from a car crash. The days and months are long there. Their love of video games becomes a shared world—of joy, escape and fierce competition. But all too soon that time is over, fades from view. When the pair spot each other eight years later in a crowded train station, they are catapulted back to that moment. The spark is immediate, and together they get to work on what they love—making games.

Exquisite character development
Revisado: 06-18-24
What a fantastic book and so beautifully and sensitively read. Highly recommend. You don't need to be a gamer to love this one. The story, the characters and the worlds they create are enough to keep any reader engaged.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Historia
For seventeen years, small-town public defender Andy Hughes has been underpaid to look after the poor, the addicted, and the unfortunate souls who constantly cycle through the courts, charged with petty crimes. Then, in the summer of 2020, he’s assigned to a grotesque murder case that brings national media focus to rural Patrick County, Virginia—Alicia Benson, the wife of a wealthy businessman, is murdered in her home. The accused killer, Damian Bullins, is a cunning felon with a long history of violence, and he confesses to the police.

Compelling, but ended felt a bit forced
Revisado: 01-04-24
A very detailed courtroom based novel that does a great job of unpacking the nuance of America trial law, but the ended just felt forced a flat. The male voices are well done, but the female voices sound almost mechanical and don't do the characters justice. Overall an enjoyable listen, but nothing to write home about.

So meta it’s meta of the meta by the meta
Revisado: 08-14-23
It’s pretty meta. Very engaging but loses the plot a little at the end. Performance is outstanding. Great variance in character voice while not sounding cartoonish or overly put on. Definitely worth a listen. If you know or have ever been curious about the world of publishing. Plus, it’s on the NYT best seller list which is super meta.

Almost, but not quite great
Revisado: 01-09-23
An interesting story and really well read by Vance, but it just seemed to lack any sort of punch. The first person written account format was really well though out, but it felt like the reveals were underwhelming. Overall I enjoyed it, but would not give it a second listen.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

If you love guns, this is for you,if not,it's okay.
Revisado: 12-27-22
If you love guns, war or are somewhat politically conservative I imagine this book would be brilliant. If you aren't any of those three it's okay. Porter is amazing as always, but the story is a bit dull once you get to through the who-dun-it part. It also gets insanely technical with the weapons descriptions, which feels like detail anyone outside of the military just wouldn't really need.
In short, it's interesting enough that I finished it...but that's probably more down to Porter than Carr.

Hope seems to have no hope left
Revisado: 12-17-22
An interesting story but William Hope's voice was just painfully monotonous at times. It was really tough to plough through the narrative when just the protagonist is in play. There is some inflection and accents when doing the different characters, which is nice, but it took me weeks to finish this because his voice was just so boring. The story itself is quite compelling, and it's got the hard sci-fi elements one is looking for, but not sure it makes up for it.
