Overboard on everyone's personal pronouns

the author does a good job moving the pot forward, Unfortunately there is a almost creepy commitment to providing plural they / them pronouns for certain characters that is completely unnecessary and distracting. This, combined with writing the Mage Queen having downright trash you promiscuity for significant annoyances that were distracting but did not ruin the book. Other than those factors, this was a solid installment in the series.

Too many creepy "nontraditional" families being normalized

Good continuation of the story. But the author's creepy fascination with the interworkings of polyamorous "family" relationships and main characters' casual promiscuity is becoming a real distraction in this series. Hopefully the author will get back to writing good Sci-Fi.

Could not make it past the smutty first chapter.

After showing eerily perfect discretion all throughout the previous book, now the first thing Chambers does is pork a subordinate crewmate in her direct chain of command and feel "very happy with herself?" Nope. I'm out.

Too much threesome "marriage" and woke pronouns

Another good story. Unfortunately this one was marred by the author's apparent obsession with the threesome "marriage" he created and all that woke pronouns involved with the that and the androgenous character.

this turned into a hard rated R

this was a good story until they decided to make it a hard rated R for no reason in the middle. Too bad I'll never find out what happens. Guess I'll find a better author somewhere else.

Tired, overused tactics

Part of the premise was the author engaging in sad, unrealistic casting of a fundamentalist Christian who gets into power based only on his religious views and tries to outlaw non-Christians from holding public office and eliminate the separation of church and state.

This goes beyond the summary's description of "irreverent" straight into the asinine demonizing so often spewed by secular leftists that is unenjoyable, ridiculous and overdone.

There are a lot of sci-fi books on Audible MUCH better ans more worth your money/credits - some even read by this narrator, who is extremely good.

Takes some getting used to

with the full cast of actors it is completely different than what you are used to with the series. You have to drop all expectations and take at least 30 minutes to really start to get into it if you are used to the other books in the series. After that you can really have fun with it
