Engaging. Did not see the end. Lots of parts at play and kept me hanging going back and forth. I still have some unanswered questions.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Masterful writing
Revisado: 12-15-23
BK is a master. How she is able to write in the voice of a male impoverished child is beyond belief. She really did her research on the topic. I looked forward to my daily commute of 30 minutes to listen to this. Charlie Thurston is superb. Sure, there is vulgar language. But to get inside the mind of a teenager who was hit by the circumstance’s in the story, requires it. Loved it start to finish. Ending was better than I feared

Historia
Hardly anyone ever leaves Des Moines, Iowa. But Bill Bryson did, and after 10 years in England he decided to go home, to a foreign country. In an ageing Chevrolet Chevette, he drove nearly 14,000 miles through 38 states to compile this hilarious and perceptive state-of-the-nation report on small-town America.

Great book to read. Wonderful book to listen to as well. Performance excellent. Because of this book I have read all of Brysons books. He has the ability to make the common place and mundane interesting and funny. Be careful reading this book at night: you might keep others awake with your laughter! Loved listening to this!!!

Historia
Dexter County, Maine, and specifically the town of Empire Falls, has seen better days, and for decades, in fact, only a succession from bad to worse. One by one, its logging and textile enterprises have gone belly-up, and the once vast holdings of the Whiting clan (presided over by the last scion’s widow) now mostly amount to decrepit real estate. The working classes, meanwhile, continue to eke out whatever meager promise isn’t already boarded up. Miles Roby gazes over this ruined kingdom from the Empire Grill, an opportunity of his youth that has become the albatross of his life.

Wow. Fantastic book
Revisado: 01-01-21
I learned of this book, after reading an article in Vanity Fair regarding Ivanka Trump. In the article it was mentioned that she did not want to discuss or read this book because it was about poor people. That peaked my interest I therefore looked for it on audible. I can see why the book won the Pulitzer Prize. The writing, the narrative, the plots and subplots kept my interest for the entire duration of the book. I found it important to really pay attention to all the details at the beginning of the book as they became quite significant by the end of the book.
The narrator was excellent. He was able to change his voice according to the different characters. Even had a pretty good Maine accent when appropriate.
I will probably find that the next book I listen to will be a bit of a letdown compared to this one. I give it my highest rating.

Historia
Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body - how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Bryson-esque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, "We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted."

Should be required reading for all medical students
Revisado: 02-17-20
This book is so good, it should be a recommendation for all incoming medical students. As a surgeon who finished medical school 35 years ago, I really enjoyed this However his presentation is so “Bryson-esque” that non medical people will also love it Bryson can tell. Story like no one else.

Amazing!
Revisado: 02-17-20
I partially read this a number of years ago, but did not finish it due to the “busyness of life” getting In the way. Loved what I read then, but felt a different format would be interesting. The book content and story was excellent and gripping. The foreshadowing kept me wondering what details told earlier on would develop into later. The narrator is excellent and able to cross over between the various times, accents and content. Although I have a medical background and felt comfortable with the content, I sent this to my sister who is non medical and she also loved it. Probably, to date, one of the best books I have listened to. It took me a while to start another one after this one

Historia
Paxton never thought he’d be working for Cloud, the giant tech company that’s eaten much of the American economy. Much less that he’d be moving into one of the company’s sprawling live-work facilities. But compared to what’s left outside, Cloud’s bland chainstore life of gleaming entertainment halls, open-plan offices, and vast warehouses...well, it doesn’t seem so bad. It’s more than anyone else is offering.
