Historia
In 1893, Liliuokalani, the Queen of Hawaii, was deposed and five years later her nation became an incorporated territory of the United States. Published shortly after these momentous events, her book Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen is an incredibly personal history of the islands that she was born to rule. Liliuokalani covers from her birth in 1838 through the reigns of her forebears to her own turbulent time as Queen of the Hawaiian Islands.

ENJOYABLE HISTORY LESSON

I enjoyed learning more about the history of our 50th state. I learned of Lili'Uokalani in the podcast Noble Blood. Highly recommend both.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
Revisado: 03-08-22
Have you ever read a book that was so good it almost makes you never want to read again because nothing can compare? Well this book did that for me. From the story line, to the message, to the characters and not least the narration, this book was a tour de force. I was a ball of tears at the end but I won't give anything away. I have already recommended this title to numerous friends and family. Best book I've read since "MY GRANDMOTHER ASKED ME TO TELL YOU I'M SORRY" by Fredrik Backman. The narration by Daniel Henning is outstanding. He captures every single character's personality with his voice. I think Chauncey may be my favorite.
Don't miss this gem of a book.

Nice Historical Fiction
Revisado: 02-14-22
I enjoyed listening to this story. I became interested in the history of Marie Antoinette after listening to Noble Blood. I was happy to hear the telling of her early life in this novel. Unfortunately the rest of the series is not done as audio books so I will have to find time to read them. Narrator/author did a good job.

Good Story
Revisado: 02-14-22
I learned about the Casquette Girls and their history from a calendar of historical events not readily known so this book caught my attention. Good premise. Some of it reminded me of that other, very well known, vampire series. The narrator has a pleasant voice with an interesting accent. It did sound like she was reading rather than acting the parts. I will listen to the next book in the series.

IT'S (IT IS) CALLED A CONTRACTION USE IT.
Revisado: 02-17-20
I didn't hate this book and I would like to know how the story of the President et al. progresses. I don't have an issue with the romance part of the story except I feel this book was miscategorized as espionage. It's 90% Alex and Cassidy romance and 10% intrigue and mystery. I'll probably get the next book in the series, but I will hold off for a bit and listen to another type of story or two.
I felt the writing could be improved. We don't (see contraction!) naturally speak using do not, will not, I am etc. We use casual language with contractions unless we are really trying to make a point then we say the full verbiage. I also could have done with out all the "her lover" and "I love you Cass, I love you Alex." WE GET IT! I loved little Dillon and the narrator captured his spirit the best in my opinion.

HORRIFYING
Revisado: 01-22-20
I have read many true crime novels, but this one is just so disturbing. I am shocked that this woman was able to murder 3, possibly 4 people and it went totally unnoticed. I can understand why her children were unable to speak up. The cruelty towards them is just disgusting. However how her husband went along with it is just sick. He loves Shelly... come on man, do you have no conscience? The fact that she is about to get out of prison (2022) and he is already out is also just disgusting. She will do this again. I hope someone keeps a very watchful eye on this sick, disturbed woman. To her daughters, my heart goes out to you. You had no choice.

Delightful Surprise
Revisado: 08-19-19
When this book was recommended to me by my sister and she gave a description of the story, I was hesitant to get it. She said it would be fine and to go for it, So I did. I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely in the category of Eleanor Oliphant as mentioned by other reviewers. I enjoyed listening to this. The narrator was very good. It is a charming story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

MOVE OVER GONE GIRL AND GIRL ON A TRAIN
Revisado: 07-08-19
HOLY you know what!!!! Never saw the end coming. Another one I HAD to recommend to friends just so we could discuss the ending. This one just blew my mind. It is my new favorite in this genre. I will look for more of Alex Michaelides works. The narration was great too. I liked the male better than the female but both did a fine job narrating this story.

Historia
Kim Miller is an immaculately put-together woman with a great career, a loving boyfriend, and a tidy apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. You would never guess that Kim grew up behind the closed doors of her family’s idyllic Long Island house, navigating between teetering stacks of aging newspapers, broken computers, and boxes upon boxes of unused junk festering in every room - the product of her father’s painful and unending struggle with hoarding. In this moving coming-of-age story, Kim brings to life her rat-infested home and her childhood consumed by concealing her father’s shameful secret from friends.

I CAN RELATE TO THIS STORY
Revisado: 07-08-19
I have lost a family member recently and I am the one delegated to going through their things now. They were not hoarders in the sense that you couldn't find an open space, or the way things are in this story, but it is daunting to go through other peoples belongings and wonder why did they keep this and that or how did they even file this paperwork. I do not envy Kimberly Rae Miller in how she grew up and what she lived with. Unfortunately I didn't find her to be a good narrator. I think her story should be voiced by a third party. Sometimes she sounded extremely boring. I stuck with the story because of the story, not the narration.

I FORESAW A DIFFERENT ENDING
Revisado: 07-08-19
This was an interesting story. Could this happen for real... maybe. I did feel the ending of the story was a bit contrived and I would have written it differently. I am not a writer though so who's to say anyone would like my ending. Narration was good. I haven't recommended it to any friends though.
