Historia
Say you want to start going to the gym or practicing a musical instrument. How long should it take before you stop having to force it and start doing it automatically? The surprising answers are found in Making Habits, Breaking Habits, a leading psychologist’s popular examination of one of the most powerful and underappreciated processes in the brain. Although people like to think that they are in control, the vast majority of human behavior occurs without any decision-making or conscious thought.

Might be a great book, but narrator is awful!
Revisado: 01-29-18
Unbearable to listen to. Narrator has this snide, condescending tone that is impossible to tolerate. Doesn't anyone actually audition these people? Or at least listen to the recording before releasing it?
Returning it because I couldn't stomach finishing it.

Whoever composed the summary is functionally illiterate. A grammatical disaster from start to finish. Completely unprofessional and excruciating to listen to.

Historia
Narcissism is a belief that the world revolves around us, and that what happens in the world happens because of us. Most of us live with a form of narcissism so common and so deeply embedded that we don't even know we have it. This "everyday narcissism" (EN) comes from childhood wounds and powerful myths we were taught as children. Everyday Narcissism helps listeners understand EN and teaches them how to heal it. It also helps listeners learn to recognize EN in others and respond in healthy ways.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-24-17
Started off well - first half covers the definitions, how to recognise, etc. The second half purports to give concrete suggestion, but it does not deliver. One was "be open to letting people's bumper-stickers resonate". Absolute garbage.
Audible has some terrible narrators, but this is one of the worst. Barely tolerable if you speed it up to 1.05-1.10 Insists on doing terrible voices for the quotes, which is very distracting.

Historia
The answer to why people feel and act the way they do lies in the profound effect of a child's bonding process with his or her parents. How successfully we form and maintain relationships throughout life is related to those early issues of "attachment". The author has cited four primary bonding styles that explain why people love, feel, and act the way they do. This book is for anyone who desires closeness, especially in the most intimate relationships: marriage, parenting, close friends, and ultimately God.

Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell? Backed by years of research and delivered in lively, energetic prose, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) offers a fascinating explanation of self-deception.

Not a lot of concrete steps , but an interesting read. Pretty irritating how the authors take such a dim view of everyone who is not a psychologist, even psychiatrists.

Historia
Of course worry can be an important asset when it forces our attention on problem solving. But anxious worrying can cause us to unnecessarily focus on threat, to retreat and avoid, and to seek reassurance and safety - which is no way to foster a life of growth and excitement. In his fifth published book, Dr. Reid Wilson proposes a groundbreaking, paradoxical approach to overcoming anxiety and worry by moving away from comfort, confidence, and security and willingly moving toward uncertainty, distress, and discomfort.

Absolutely not. Sounds like a computer over-pronouncing all of the consonants. Intolerable and should be re-recorded.

Mindset is one of those rare audio books that can help you make positive changes in your life and at the same time see the world in a new way. A leading expert in motivation and personality psychology, Carol Dweck has discovered in more than 20 years of research that our mindset is not a minor personality quirk: it creates our whole mental world. It explains how we become optimistic or pessimistic. It shapes our goals, our attitude toward work, and ultimately predicts whether or not we will fulfull our potential.

Watch the Ted talk - save yourself 8 hours
Revisado: 05-25-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Never has an obvious point been so thoroughly belaboured.......plus the constant promises to teach you howto change your mindset that never materialized.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The rampant narcissism of the author didn't help - here are all the letters people have written to me, telling me how great I am.....
What didn’t you like about Marguerite Gavin’s performance?
Not great. Her tone of voice was annoying and she insisted on doing voices for quotations.
Do you think Mindset needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Please, no. The point has been completely beaten to death in this book.
Any additional comments?
A useful premise, but pretty painful listening.
