Historia
Unlike the wars in Vietnam and Iraq, the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 had near-unanimous public support. At first, the goals were straightforward and clear: Defeat al-Qaeda and prevent a repeat of 9/11. Yet soon after the United States and its allies removed the Taliban from power, the mission veered off-course and US officials lost sight of their original objectives.

Great detail of the years of the war, but the pull out of American forces isn’t even touched on or even discussed!
Revisado: 10-05-24
I didn’t like that the Biden pull out isn’t even discussed. I believe that is a grave oversight.

Cyril Fotheringay-Phipps, known to his friends as Barmy, has made a poor decision. He has invested $10,000 in a stage production that seems doomed from the start in order to be near the woman of his dreams - Miss Dinty Moore. Will he find true love or merely lose a fortune?

An amazing story with amazing characters
Revisado: 04-27-23
This is a riveting story with a number of unexpected twists. Best I like Wodehouse’s witty and absurd descriptions of characters and trivial events made to look important by comparisons to cataclysmal events in history or to characters in Shakespeare, Milton or the Bible. Barmy Cyril Fotheringay-Phipps is the protagonist. He is mild and maybe a bit like Leopold in the Producers and is easily duped. But for me the great character in the story is the bombastic actor Melvyn Potter. His analogies and drunken twisted sense of reasoning kept me roaring with laughter.

“Step by step, I retreated from God and went forth to meet the world, the flesh, and the devil.... I’d join the devil himself.... There is no doubt that I traveled with him at my side and that he extorted a great price for his company.” This is how Bella Dodd (1904–69) described her long battle with atheistic communism, an ideology her Church calls a “satanic scourge.” She later described it as a “school of darkness,” a school of “hate,” a school for which she was a master organizer and infiltrator of every organization—public, private, and even ecclesiastical.

A very sobering yet uplifting piece of history
Revisado: 01-17-23
Much of the life of Bella Dodd must have been hard, torturous and devoid of beauty. Yet through the Church she found victory, redemption, and purpose. The courage of her life is a story worth telling. The history of the communist party in America in the 1930s and 40s that engulfed her is a history of monumental significance and needs to be exposed and understood by all Americans.

So many great stories. Ingeniously composed. But I marveled just as much at the exquisite narration (or I should say acting) by the reader, Jonathon Cecil. Thank you for lifting my spirits.

What causes people to forsake their country and take arms against it? What prompts their neighbors, hardly distinguishable in station or success, to defend that country against the rebels? That is the question H. W. Brands answers in his powerful new history of the American Revolution.

Very informative. I was particularly glad to learn of Benjamin Franklin's contributions overseas with the juxtaposed timeline of the war efforts between the patriots and the loyalists on this continent. Intriguing also we're the various loyalists stories and particularly the rift between Benjamin Franklin and his son William.

Historia
Democrats, the news media, and many leading Republicans immediately blamed the roughly four-hour disturbance on President Trump. The president “incited an insurrection”, the American pubic was told. But one year later, the original narrative of what happened that day has crumbled while hundreds of Americans have been swept up in an unprecedented investigation led by Joe Biden’s Justice Department to punish them for their involvement in the January 6 protest. The public has been misled - and flat-out lied to - about that day. This book exposes them all.

Revisado: 01-16-22
This book is well read and I believe well researched. If the allegations made in the book are true, and I suspect they are, the book should be a revelation and an eye opener to all who are really concerned with what happened on January 6.

Historia
It was a devastating triple punch. Capping their four-year campaign to destroy the Trump presidency, the media portrayed a Democratic victory as necessary and inevitable. Big Tech, wielding unprecedented powers, vaporized dissent and erased damning reports about the Biden family’s corruption. Rigged is the definitive account of the 2020 election. Based on Mollie Hemingway’s exclusive interviews with campaign officials, reporters, Supreme Court justices, and President Trump himself, it exposes the fraud and cynicism behind the Democrats’ historic power grab.

Well written, well researched, and well reasoned. In my opinion Ms. Hemingway is an outstanding writer of today's politics. This is the most captivating and best book of hers that I have read.

Trapped in rural Steeple Bumpleigh, a man less stalwart than Bertie Wooster would probably give way at the knees, for among those present are Florence Craye, to whom Bertie had once been engaged; her new fiancé, "Stilton" Cheesewright, who sees Bertie as a snake in the grass; and that biggest blot on the landscape, Edwin the Boy Scout, who is busy doing acts of kindness out of sheer malevolence.
