I purchased this book because I heard the author on a podcast. I was truly blessed by the contents of the story. Listening to the author’s food related journey has given me a fresh perspective on God’s Blessings through food. I was especially moved by her details of the Passover meal.

Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

As I read this book, I realized how I have been living a Non-essential life. I found that the more I read the more I did not want to put the book down or stop listening to the Audible. I want to make changes in my life so I will start with what triggers me and focus on developing clarity. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels they are on a wheel to no where both personally and professionally.

Historia
Young Hiram Walker was born into bondage. When his mother was sold away, Hiram was robbed of all memory of her - but was gifted with a mysterious power. Years later, when Hiram almost drowns in a river, that same power saves his life. This brush with death births an urgency in Hiram and a daring scheme: to escape from the only home he’s ever known. So begins an unexpected journey that takes Hiram from the corrupt grandeur of Virginia’s proud plantations to desperate guerrilla cells in the wilderness, from the coffin of the South to dangerously idealistic movements in the North.

Historia
Prickly, wry, resistant to change yet ruthlessly honest and deeply empathetic, Olive Kitteridge is “a compelling life force” (San Francisco Chronicle). The New Yorker has said that Elizabeth Strout “animates the ordinary with an astonishing force”, and she has never done so more clearly than in this book, where the iconic Olive struggles to understand not only herself and her own life but the lives of those around her in the town of Crosby, Maine.

Drawn Into Olive’s Life
Revisado: 04-09-20
I enjoyed this book so much. I selected it because it was on Oprah’s Book Club list. I wouldn’t read it though until I read Olive Kitteridge so that I could become familiar with the characters. Elizabeth Strout is a masterful story teller and I found myself being drawn into Olive’s life and the lives of those around her.
The narration by Kimberly Farr was phenomenal. I could easily visualize the different characters and her soothing voice made me want to listen more and more.
I am a fan and I can’t wait to read more books by this fabulous author.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

I wanted to read this book before I saw the movie and I was mesmerized by the stories of the individuals defended by Mr. Stevenson and EJI. I appreciate the narration done by Mr. Stevenson because I could hear the sincerity in his voice as he told the story. I am so happy to have read this book and I highly recommend it to others.

Great read!
Revisado: 01-25-20
I have had Becoming for a year. I have the actual book and the audible version. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The fact that it was read by the author was an added bonus. I felt as if Mrs. Obama and I were two friends having a conversation. I found myself talking back to the book many times. Her use of some words made me realize her scholarly aptitude without having me feel I was being spoken down to. I would love for her to write another book, not necessarily a biographical piece but I could see a fabulous mystery coming from her pen. I’m just sorry I took so long to read this book.

Historia
Once upon a time there was a version of our faith that was practically...irresistible. But that was then. Today we preach, teach, write, and communicate as if nothing has changed. As if “The Bible says it” still settles it. It’s time to hit pause on much of what we’re doing and consider the faith modeled by our first-century brothers and sisters who had no official Bible, no status, and humanly speaking, little chance of survival. What did they know that we don’t? What made their faith so compelling, so defensible, so irresistible? Buckle up...you’re about to find out.

Revisado: 06-27-19
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narration by Andy Stanley was inviting and entertaining. The content was thought-provoking and well delivered. I find myself quoting and reflecting on parts of the book especially as I follow Jesus’ command to Love One Another. This book should be read by all followers of Jesus especially if we have gotten away from His true message of love.
