Bad narration.
Revisado: 09-10-23
Like many previous reviews, I throughly enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next part. However, the narrator sounded like they were stoned and it definitely detracted from the experience. I even check my play speed several times while listening to ensure it wasn’t my mistake, but it was not. Still, entertaining story and I will certainly be listening to the next one, stoned narrator and all…..

Old Friends
Revisado: 07-27-23
Listening to Somebody’s Fool felt like reuniting with old friends you may not have seen for awhile, but once together, it’s as if no time has passed and not a beat missed. Selfishly, I hope this is not the conclusion of the North Bath series, but if so, what a way to draw the curtains. Bravo, Mr. Russo…..

Mary Pat, propelled by a desperate search for her daughter, begins turning over stones best left untouched.

Damn good.
Revisado: 05-12-23
Lehane does it again. I’m calling it now, if/when this gets adapted for TV/movies, whomever portrays Mary Pat will be winning some awards (or will be nominated at the least).

Historia
Although badly scarred and down to his last kidney after the previous caper, Happy Doll is back in business. When a beguiling young woman turns up at his door, it’s Doll’s past that comes knocking. Mary DeAngelo is searching for her estranged mother, Ines Candle—a singular and troubled woman Doll once loved. The last he’d seen her she’d been near-death: arms slit like envelopes. Now, years later, Mary claims Ines is alive and recently made contact—only to disappear once again. Although his psychoanalyst would discourage it, Doll takes the case, desperate to see Ines again.

A great new series!
Revisado: 09-10-22
Between this one and it’s predecessor, we have a fantastic new series with an extremely memorable protagonist. I hope Mr. Ames will bless us with several more Happy Doll novels. I heard Jonathan Ames on Marc Maron’s podcast a while back and during their conversation, he claimed to have spent a few years reading and rereading the entire Parker series. Judging by the first two Doll books, I would say that was time well spent. Thank you, sir. May I have another?
