Historia
Ever since he became a Christian at the age of forty, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the Bible. In between filming the final episodes of Poirot, David Suchet spent over 200 hours in the recording studio to create the very first full-length audio version of the NIV Bible spoken by a single British actor. This Old Testament edition is excerpted from that Bible.

The Greatest Book read by the Greatest Narrator
Revisado: 03-14-24
I’ve got several audible Bible versions with several wonderful narrators. However, there’s something special about David Suchet’s voice and speaking pace that kept me in rapt attention. Thank you, Sir Suchet .

Historia
Never before has such an account of mountaineering triumph and tragedy been told from a woman's point of view. By proving that women had the skill, strength, and courage necessary to make this difficult and dangerous climb, the 1978 Women's Himalayan Expedition's accomplishment had a positive impact around the world, changing perceptions about women's abilities in sports and other arenas. And Annapurna: A Woman's Place has become an acknowledged classic in the annals of women's achievements - a story of challenge and commitment told with passion, humor, and unflinching honesty.

Riveting story of Himalayan climb
Revisado: 02-25-22
I own the hard copy of this book and purchased the audiobook to listen to on a long flight. The audiobook was every bit as riveting as the paper book, even though there are no photos. The reader made Arlene's words come alive, and I could see all of the climbers in my mind. A wonderful and inspiring tale of teamwork.

Historia
After the success of the Normandy invasion, the Allied commanders are buoyantly confident that the war in Europe will be over in a matter of weeks, that Hitler and his battered army have no other option than surrender. But despite the advice of his best military minds, Hitler will hear no talk of defeat. In mid-December 1944, the Germans launch a desperate and ruthless counteroffensive in the Ardennes forest, utterly surprising the unprepared Americans who stand in their way.

Jeff Shaara Brings History to Life
Revisado: 07-03-20
I wish more young American students were asked to read historical recounts by U.S. soldiers from WWI and WWII. It would help to discount the notion of American soldiers as blood thirsty conquerors, rather than the dutiful but terrified young men that they were. The four European war books by Shaara are deeply moving...told through the eyes of the individual rather than a simple retelling of facts. Make this required reading in your high school classes.

Thoughtful Christmas Mystery
Revisado: 12-11-18
This is my favorite of all the Anne Perry Christmas stories. I listen to them every day from American Thanksgiving TIL Christmas Day. This one would be an enjoyable novelette for any time of year.

Good romance but a little too long
Revisado: 06-02-17
I enjoyed the beginning story lines of the nonesuch, Miss Trent and Tiffany; however, writer spends at least 5 chapters too many resolving issues. I've actually tried to listen to this three times but got bored. I wanted more of The Nonesuch and his world, less of bratty Tiffany's 800 tantrums. I finally skipped from chapter 12 to 18 and enjoyed the end.

Doesn't get better than this!
Revisado: 12-23-16
Excellent characters, vivid descriptions of a unique setting and a magnificent narrator. He positively purrs when pronouncing French Quebec names and locations. Great detective story with heart. (I prefer not to read light romantic novels nor novels with graphic violence and sex. This has none of those.)

Author Mixes Her Genres
Revisado: 10-24-16
The first two Maggie Hope Mysteries were lighter-style mysteries, which was exactly what I was looking for. I deal with serious human circumstances on a daily basis and like to listen to light mysteries in my car or while exercising. This book's blurb/description doesn't come close to describing the style of book that would follow....a narrative of the horrors of the Holocaust. After a couple years, I decided to give MacNeal another shot but, in Mrs. Roosevelt's Confidante, the exact same thing happened....rather than a book about Eleanor Roosevelt and intrigue in the White House during World War II (as advertised), it became a book about racism in America;;;and, in my opinion, a POORLY researched one. I have read plenty of historical non-fiction on both of the subjects mentioned here, and I do not object to learning about these issues.. THE OBJECTION IS THAT YOU ADVERTISE THESE BOOKS AS ONE GENRE AND THE BOOKS ARE ABOUT SOMETHING DIFFERENT. MAKE UP YOUR MIND, MACNEAL and editors! Mixing your styles leaves no one satisfied nor better informed.

Historia
In this irresistibly imagined belowstairs answer to Pride and Prejudice, the servants take center stage. Sarah, the orphaned housemaid, spends her days scrubbing the laundry, polishing the floors, and emptying the chamber pots for the Bennet household. But there is just as much romance, heartbreak, and intrigue downstairs at Longbourn as there is upstairs. When a mysterious new footman arrives, the orderly realm of the servants’ hall threatens to be completely, perhaps irrevocably, upended.

Slow and Wordy
Revisado: 11-20-13
This book borrows the situations and characters from Jane Austen but that's where the similarities end. This rendition is full of adjectives but slow on action. Unfortunate, because the concept was intriguing.
