there is not one bad thing I can say about this book. the dialogue is amazing. the narration deserves 10 stars.

I just couldn't like any of the characters. The only one I managed to care about at all was Wes. so much of this book was unbelievable. there's no way Rhett could talk to his Prez like he did and not suffer any consequences. The whole high school aspect was cringey. They don't use any protection even though the guys have screwed everything that moves.

this was a beautiful story! the only thing I didn't like were the narrators. I don't think they were the right men for this story. the only thing that could've made it better was if it was written in 1st person instead of 3rd person.

it started out good but then

the first few chapters were fine but then Maddie was so frustrating. she was so judgemental and then she'd be hot and cold over and over again. she let him do things and then get mad about it and try to kick him out. then she'd blame her friend. it was ridiculous. I found nothing likeable about her whatsoever. Zane was pretty annoying at first. he kept calling her a broad in his monologue and then wouldn't really take no as an answer. but then they finally hook up and then it's insta love. like the next day. Then Maddie ends up telling her dad everything and I mean EVERYTHING. including how she thinks he's just a player but she slept with him anyway and then gets super mad at her dad for treating Zane like crap. like, girl, what did you expect? then suddenly they break up without even actually breaking up. it was so weird. There were so many holes in the story. at one point Zane calls someone and is talking to them on the phone and then they're not on the phone but taking to each other in person. the little action scene towards the end had me cringing the entire time. i even threw my hands up in the air. I know I'll never ask Zane to save me because when Maddie's life was at risk he turned into Mr magoo. but Maddie also has 0 survival instincts. the ending just had me rolling my eyes.

Too much angst

the first 7 and a half hours of this book was just so hard to get through. Lavender's anxiety is literally debilitating. she couldn't even have excited people taking to her without almost crying. Her clumsiness, shyness, and anxiety was just too much. I was very close to quitting. the only thing that kept me going was her wittiness. She says the funniest things when she's not frozen in fear. Once the 2 main characters finally connected she just suddenly wasn't shy, clumsy, or anxious anymore. the book seemed to be on fast forward after that. everything was just rushed. the narrators were amazing though.

I was not impressed with the book. It is listed as a stand alone but it just feels like there's information that is missing. Apparently, this is not the first book in a series. For example, I don't think there was ever a mention of anyone's age (if there was I wasn't paying attention) There were so many opportunities for this to be a great book but, it just fell flat. Even the hostage/rescue was boring. I really thought this was where we would see the FMC and MMC show us that they were badass. I couldn't find anything to like about Cade. He was just a jerk. always making Izzy feel inadequate. He has no redeeming qualities. Their relationship just came off as completely toxic. The narrator for Cade was not the right choice at all. He sounded like an older man maybe in his 60's. I still have no idea how old Cade was supposed to be but the guy is supposed to be smoking hot, with a nice muscled body and a dick piercing. It was hard to get through his chapters because the voice just didn't match the description of the guy. I also thought it was crazy that Izzy has 4 older brothers and an identical twin sister who all have names that start with D. What kind of monsters would get to their last child and then break the pattern?! This book was thoroughly disappointing.

Emma drove me crazy!

the story wasn't horrible. it was just Emma. she's utterly useless and I have no idea why Carter cares about her at all. she's an absolute moron. she constantly refuses to do what carter tells her to do when he's trying to save her life. there were some inconsistencies that stood out to me but I was able to get past them pretty easily. Emma just frustrated me so much that my hatred of her may have overshadowed some of the other issues.

I listened to this pretty much straight through. The only thing I was disappointed with is that someone didn't get what they deserved and someone didn't get any credit for saving a life. Other than that it was great and definitely worth a credit.

cutesy romance, tiny bit of conflict

This book was too "fluffy" for me. I like there to be a bit more action and conflict. This book is called The Protector and has a male on the cover but, the MMC really doesn't do any protecting. His military background and skills don't even come into play. Basically his protecting of her consists of catering to her every moment of the day and constantly reassuring her and seeking permission for everything. I'm all for consent but when you have to consent multiple times or for every single thing it just isn't sexy.
