Historia
Everyday, we're being asked to trust in something. We trust that our jobs will pay us on time. We trust that our partners will come home in the evening. We trust that our apartment won't suddenly collapse on us, that our neighbors won't steal our mail, and that our kids will be safe at school. But what happens when that trust is broken? According to one 2013 study from the Journal of Couple and Family Psychology, 60 percent of couples cited a partner's unfaithfulness as the reason for their divorce. Trust isn't just an issue in relationships. A 2022 Gallup poll found that Americans' trust in ...

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

I can honestly say that I have enjoyed this audiobook series from start to finish four times in the past few years. Each time I have listened so far I have caught details I previously missed since the depth of the story is such that I have actually listened to the entire series three times in 15 months and was not bored with it ... in fact, I am still sad when I finish the last chapter of the last book and I am currently almost ready to start it over once again even though I only finished my last journey through two months ago.
I am an older adult who missed out on the series when the books were first published and the movies released but have more than caught up in the past five years. I find the themes of family vs isolation, good vs evil, tolerance, perseverance, friendship, and sacrifice as timely as they are timeless and have returned to the series on video and through audible when I am just tired of everything. The audiobooks have gotten me through illness and depression and given me the hope that things can get better if we don't give up the good fight while making damn sure we are fighting on the right side with the right people - if we are going to keep on fighting.
I highly recommend the entire series to young and old, but this book in particular to children and their parents. The young Harry, Hermoine, and Ron show us what it is like to find our place in the world when we were not quite fitting in before and how differences in talent, skill, upbringing and family background make us stronger as we work together.
I can not say enough about the narrator, I feel surrounded by J.K. Rowling's world as Jim Dale describes it and voices all the different characters so well and so distinctly that I personally get lost in the stories. I recently learned that Mr. Dale developed around 200 distinct voices for the characters of this series. The reading is clear and crisp with all the emotional range necessary to what I can only describe as a great opus.
Each time I have read through the series I only enjoy it more. I am holding back but also looking to my next journey through this wonderful audiobook series... probably in a couple of months from now.

Historia
The peaceful slumber of the Worcester village of Rudge-in-the-Vale is about to be rudely disrupted. First there’s a bitter feud between peppery Colonel Wyvern and the Squire of Rudge Hall, rich but miserly Lester Carmody. Second, that arch-villain Chimp Twist has opened a health farm, and he and Soapy and Dolly Molloy are planning a fake burglary so Lester can diddle his insurance company. After the knockout drops are served, things get a little complicated. But will Lester’s nephew, John, win over his true love, Colonel Wyvern’s daughter Pat, and restore tranquility to the idyll?

When all else fails make your own mess
Revisado: 07-04-19
I can't really figure out why I liked this book so much. Perhaps it is because I have also experienced a major life upheaval and then started a vegetable garden in the months before I listened to it. (Although with far less drama.)
I found the protagonist brave, relatable, honest, sometimes clueless, loving - even when frustrated, and real. There are quirky sidekicks, unreasonable antagonists, a wise and generous guide, a bit of a mystery, a little romance, the abject fear we face when our life is suddenly turned upside-down, and the mundane struggles we all face daily. Our heroine survives her journey with varying degrees of grace, humor, pluck, and just plain slogging through.
The book could have ended any number of ways and I was not sure what the resolution would be until the end.
This is not the same old story I have read over and over again, so maybe that is the reason I enjoyed it so much.
I got this one from a daily deal, but I feel it is well worth the regular price.
