I enjoyed this story very much partly because I learned of the critical role women played during the war. Listening to the epilogue and the author’s explanation of her research was enlightening and incredibly interesting. Hats off to Kate Quinn.

Secrets and lies among suburban housewives. In walks the truly evil woman and upsets the neighborhood rhythm. In a time when women ought to band together, this felt like a story about women at their worst. Not my favorite Joshilyn Jackson listen.

“Who done it?” is the question to be answered in most mystery stories. This one, however, asks What are we capable of? What would it take to trigger our darkest hopes? Are we born with our personality characteristics? Do we really know ourselves? Who don’t it? is the least significant focus.
Unfortunately, the search for the answers to these questions drags the reader s-l-o-w-l-y through the pages and I lost interest. I just wanted the book to end.
Not my favorite Tana French.

The fact that I don't want to begin a new book just yet is an indication of a very good read. I miss Eleanor. This quirky, troubled young woman is a survivor trying to make her way in the world. Her journey brought me smiles and sadness along the way. I applaud her strength and courage and her willingness to face her demons.

I loved this lonely grumpy old man whose rigid view of others made me chuckle many times. When his kindness refuses to remain buried, even he doesn't know what to do with these renewed feelings. The people he encounters and the lives he touches along the way left me with an overwhelming sense of satisfaction. I know someone very much like him... Don't you?

At the conclusion of this very enjoyable tale, I was completely perplexed. I thought I had missed something entirely and was preparing to listen again to the final chapters. Thank you, Audible, for the notification that this book is the first in a series. Guess I'd better keep listening!

A documentary filled with information about government, social services, and private enterprise. When these elements collide at the surface of a mine where 33 men are trapped, I found myself appalled, cynical, and discouraged.

I watched the rescue in real time and was filled with anxiety and then joy as all 33 came out alive. I was a little disappointed that those emotions did not return as I listened to the story unfold. I applaud those miners and the rescuers for their undying belief in humanity. I wonder, "Have we learned to nurture each other and to be grateful for the simple pleasure of everyday living? Will we ever learn?"

Honest and revealing, this work is a history lesson made personal through the author's own experiences. It is especially interesting for women as we learn about the medical development of pregnancy and childbirth. An eye opener for sure. I look forward to the next book.
