Historia
In the beginning, the world is spoken into existence with one word: “Earth.” There are no inhabitants, and no sun—only the broad sky, silent sea, and sovereign Framer and Shaper. Then come the twin heroes Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Wielding blowguns, they begin a journey to hell and back, ready to confront the folly of false deities as well as death itself, in service to the world and to humanity. This is the story of the Mayan Popol Vuh, “the book of the woven mat,” one of the only epics indigenous to the Americas.

Entertaining translation of the Popul Vuh. Creation and the Gods are brought to life.
Revisado: 04-25-25
Incredibly interesting story about how the world was created with all the animals, the multiple attempts to create humans, then the story of the Gods and how the sun and moon were created and then the eventual creation of modern humans. The story had a good plot and when the Gods go to the underworld called Xibalba in this and confront the Lord's of Death the story climaxes. The narrator did a good job especially given that he is the writer of the book. I saw some review bombing on some of the other comments but I found the book to be very informative. Another interesting aspect of this story was how there was water in the beginning before anything else and how everything was spoken into existence. There was even a flood and a virgin birth too. This book deserves more attention just for the fact it is a direct translation of the Popul Vuh. Keep in mind most of these types of texts were completely destroyed by Spanish colonizers thus making me wonder if the beginning that has many similarities to the stories in the Bible is not just by chance. This is an echo of older versions that were destroyed and this is an attempt to maintain the original story. Highly recommend.

Historia
The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is the ultimate tragic love story. It is perhaps one of the most famous Greek myths, and the greatest artists have composed masterpieces to honour these two great lovers who lost their chance at reunion. The earliest account comes from Ibycus (circa 530 BC), a Greek lyric poet. This short story is a mixture of the various existing versions, presenting the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in all its details, all the way to Orpheus' death at the hands of the Bacchantes.

A soulless husk of Greek myth: this is the cliff notes version for Greek Mythologies.
Revisado: 04-24-25
This story could have been embellished with dialogue between the characters and much more imagery. This is essentially the outline of a story but without the story. If you want a quick and concise just the facts version of Greek Myth then look no further but something will be lost along the way. This author also did the King Midas story and the Hercules story and all of the other ones are exactly the same, incredibly shortened with just the facts. Think about the twelve trials of Hercules and how condensed it would have to be to fit all of them within an eleven minute short story. To some degree it's a disservice to actual Greek myth but because all the facts are still there I gave it a higher rating.

Historia
On July 16, 1965, a massive alien spacecraft from the Zeta Reticuli star system landed at the Nevada test site north of Las Vegas. Following a plan set in motion by President Kennedy in 1962, the alien visitors known as the Ebens welcomed 12 astronaut-trained military personnel aboard their craft for the 10-month journey to their home planet, Serpo, 39 light-years away. Working with the DIA originators of the Serpo project and the diary kept by the expedition’s commanding officer, Len Kasten chronicles the complete journey of these cosmic pioneers.

A documentation of twelve humans leaving the solar system and going to Planet Serpo.
Revisado: 04-23-25
The most interesting thing about all this is that the story is documented as fact not fiction and is backed up with as much factual sounding things as possible. The narrative itself is mostly about what happened directly before the alien craft crashed, and then us contacting the aliens and arranging a trade. We sent twelve humans and they were there thirteen years and this book tells what happened to these men while living in Planet Serpo. The narrative was a bit dry in the beginning but then got really interesting when they left for planet Serpo. The end of the book is filled with technical information like what they took with them, how the propulsion system on the alien ship works and even what the aliens believe about God. If you are looking to find out some top-secret information now offered in full disclosure or perhaps would like to entertain yourself with a story then this is a good choice however for many the suspension of disbelief will be necessary. Regardless it's a worthy investment of your time to contemplate just what happened sixty years ago with all the alien controversy.

Al Ward lives on an isolated mining claim in the high desert of central Nevada fifty miles from the nearest town. A grizzled man in his sixties, he survives on canned soup, instant coffee, and memories of his ex-wife, friends and family he’s lost, and his life as a touring musician. Hampered by insomnia, bouts of anxiety, and a chronic lethargy that keeps him from moving back to town, Al finds himself teetering on the edge of madness and running out of reasons to go on—until a horse arrives on his doorstep: nameless, blind, and utterly helpless.

Story about an old country singer and his life with all it's ups and downs.
Revisado: 04-23-25
The narrator did a good job with the voices and given that the narrator is also the author I'd have to say he did an exceptional job with his own book. This book had a lot of time jumps and because of that a few times during the narrative I had trouble tracking whether we were talking about the old man or himself when he was younger. The story has a happy ending and I really appreciate that because there is a lot of sad things contained in this story. The characters really shined especially the women that came into his life. If you are looking for a slice of life book with an American story than look no further.

Historia
Jason and the Golden Fleece is one of the finest tales of Ancient Greece, an epic journey of adventure and trial standing beside similar stories of Perseus, Theseus and the Labours of Heracles. The finest classic account comes from Apollonius of Rhodes, the Greek poet of the 3rd century BCE and librarian at Alexandria. Though less well-known than Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, and much shorter, it is an epic poem which is both exciting and moving, with remarkably vivid portraits of the main characters, Jason and Medea.

This is a classic which earned it a higher rating but it was a tough read however the translator nor the narrator are at fault.
Revisado: 04-18-25
Embedded in this narrative is an interesting story but it is surrounded by excessive exposition. Newer versions bring out the best in this story by laying out the most interesting facts embellished with extra dialogue and imagery thus bringing the story to life whereas the original is consistently recalling other stories from other narratives and just constantly stopping its own narrative to point out names of places and what happened in the past with those places. Even the action scenes were quite anticlimactic and lacked a certain pizazz that a modern version would have taken the opportunity to make far more interesting. Its not the story but the way the story was told, it's only saving grace is it's antiquity. I recommend any one of the modern versions going by the name of Medea or even the Witch of Colchis which is a fantastic adaptation of this timeless story.

Hypnotic regression is used to talk to people about their past lives and higher selves.
Revisado: 04-17-25
The entire recording has an echo to it, at times I wondered if it was on purpose. Some of the past lives recorded struck me as a bit far-fetched. Using the mind to carve the crystal skulls, stories about Atlantis and Lemuria: in every hypnotic session mentioned here she contacts something she calls the SC which may be interpreted as the person's higher power or perhaps even an alien presence. In regards to aliens this book mentions humans she regressed talking about having other lives they lived in other worlds. Some of these were reptilian, and some were even crystalline based humanoids. If you can take everything with a grain of salt this book might be more enjoyable but I felt it's credulity stretched quite far. The fact is the book claims that through these hypnotic regressions people have been helped, backs healed and suffering alleviated, even if it was something supernatural healing them or perhaps the power of suggestion or the so-called placebo effect regardless if people are gaining value out of the therapy than it's a good thing although I suspect a great deal of the regressions may very well be a product of the person being regressed rather than any actual past life.

Historia
Simone is one of the Glitterati, the elite living lives of luxury and leisure. Slave to the ever-changing tides—and brutal judgements—of fashion, he is immaculate. To be anything else is to be unfashionable, and no one wants to be unfashionable, or even worse, ugly. When Simone accidentally starts a new fashion with a nosebleed at a party, another Glitterati takes the credit. Soon their rivalry threatens to raze their opulent utopia to the ground, as no one knows how to be vicious like the beautiful ones.

Negative experiences do not exist for the fashionable: in a world surrounded by undesirables they are the glitterati.
Revisado: 04-17-25
Infinitely wealthy people erase their memories so that they can appear even more beautiful and be proper fashionistas. The idea is that trauma can make you frown and that is bad for being fashionable, so they erase every traumatic experience. For them this could be bad sex, an unfortunate event like a bad meal or any other reason that seems to be less than perfect. This also includes their childhood: their memories start at 18 going forward. At a certain point there is an excellent plot twist thus making the book far more interesting and there are even some lessons to be learned along the way. All the characters were unique, the narrator did an excellent job bringing them to life and it ends with a satisfying conclusion. This was a good read!

Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are unquestionably two of the greatest epic masterpieces in Western literature. Though more than 2,700 years old, their stories of brave heroics, capricious gods, and towering human emotions are vividly timeless. The Iliad can justly be called the world’s greatest war epic. The terrible and long-drawn-out siege of Troy remains one of the classic campaigns. The Odyssey chronicles the many trials and adventures Odysseus must pass through on his long journey home from the Trojan wars to his beloved wife.

The Illiad and the Odyssey in one book what a deal!
Revisado: 04-09-25
I found the Odyssey far more interesting than the Illiad. The Illiad got better near the end but the beginning was rough to get through. When all the warriors of renown were lining up for battle it was just endless name after name. The battles were similar, just endless scenes of violence explained in detail. it's not necessarily bad but can be exhausting to get through. Both stories were excellent and due to the antiquity I gave it five stars. I found the machinations of the Gods to be extremely interesting and would recommend this story. Its just certain parts are boring but you can utilize the beginning of the chapter to navigate, I committed the whole way through but there is no shame in skipping to the next chapter when it is droning on endlessly with repetitive name dropping or describing battles in perfect detail. A battle described in perfect detail sounds great until you realize every killing stroke is defined in detail. It's an entertaining, interesting story but some might find the abridged versions easier to get through.

This collection is an incredible value for the money.
Revisado: 04-08-25
Eight distinct cultures mythology are examined in detail. After listening I found myself far more interested in Egyptian mythology and Norse Mythology. All the mythologies were done quite well, the author lays out the stories typically in consecutive format. The typical mythology starts with the creation story and then the introduction of the major Gods and then the most popular stories. This is like the cliff notes for mythology and is an excellent introduction. You can quickly learn what your favorite mythologies are and if you wanna go deeper than you could read the Indian Mahabharata or Ramayana for example or the Norse Edda or a story about the monkey King of China. After reading this I learned about the monkey King and wasn't aware of that distinct Chinese story of mythology. This book is a crash course on the eight most popular mythologies and is absolutely worth it. Like the Japanese mythology with its demons and it's gods of creation everything was just perfectly explained in a concise manner. Highly recommend!

Many millennia after the fall of Eden, Adam, the first man in creation, still walks the Earth - exhausted by the endless death and destruction, he is a shadow of his former hope and glory. And he is not the only one. The Garden was deconstructed, its pieces scattered across the world and its inhabitants condemned to live out immortal lives, hiding in plain sight from generations of mankind.

This is an interesting take on what happened to Adam after he left the garden of Eden.
Revisado: 04-08-25
The story itself started out with a lot of action but at some point Adam begins to mull over his life. A great deal of the time the main character is in his head considering his feelings and memories. This story has a great deal of imagery, brooding and dialogue. The characters were unique and fleshed out well and eventually when the storyline moves forward to a successful conclusion the plot really comes together but getting there can be difficult. I also found all the shapeshifting animals hard to swallow. On a side note what happened to Eve I found hard to stomach as well. Adam how could you?
