Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

His story felt so real, as though it was unfolding in real time… right now.
Revisado: 10-25-24
Frederick Douglass’ story is something I will never forget for as long as I live. How he had the strength of character to persevere under those extraordinary circumstances, I will never understand. However, as a black american and a descendant of slaves, I am eternally grateful for his inspiring words and enduring contributions towards our understanding of the lives and absolute atrocities of slavery. Yet the strength and resilience of the spirit within him, longing to be free, prevailed in the end. Wow! Such a powerful story.

When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Love his humor and the way he uses scripture to support how God’s nature is good even through the seemingly harsh or difficult to understand passages. Also love the way he explains how we need to come to Him as we are, and how having a connection to the Spirit changes us and makes us reveal more of the Spirit’s fruit in our lives. This is a good read! Thank you, Pastor Jonathan.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Escaping The Chains That Bind Us
Revisado: 02-06-23
Prince Harry’s memoir inspires me to muster the courage to escape the chains that hold me back and keep me from fully experiencing life and freedom on my own terms. Those born to royalty are entitled to that as much as anyone else. We love you Prince Harry and we’re wishing you and your family only the very best.

Miss Pettigrew is a down-on-her-luck, middle-aged governess sent by her employment agency to work for a nightclub singer rather than a household of unruly children. Historia
In Monterey, on the California coast, Sweet Thursday is what they call the day after Lousy Wednesday, which is one of those days that is just naturally bad. Returning to the scene of Cannery Row, the weedy lots and junk heaps and flophouses of Monterey, John Steinbeck once more brings to life the denizens of a netherworld of laughter and tears—from Fauna, new headmistress of the local brothel, to Hazel, a bum whose mother must have wanted a daughter.

Historia
Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

Inspiration Just When We Need it Most!
Revisado: 07-11-18
So educational and inspiring with capable and fitting narrations. Jon Meacham is a calm and measured, yet powerful force in helping the reader more fully understand that we've been to this place before in our nation's history and politics, and again we are called to denounce fear tactics, look forward instead of back, speak kindly to one another through ongoing dialogue, and vote! Only then can our better angels prevail. Truly a masterful look at our nation's history as it leads up to our present social and moral crisis. Such an inspiring book for these unsteady times in our nation, complete with a plethora of fitting quotes from a variety of consequential leaders. Well done, Mr. Meacham.
