So many twists and turns!
Revisado: 02-03-24
The story continues and keeps getting better!
I was pleasantly surprised and I am eager to see where our heroes go next.
Definitely one of my favorite characters with so much development and growth is Laurana. Her journey is so inspiring to me with how she becomes her own person and learns to grow into her own. Becoming a beacon of leadership and hope to those around her.
Such a great series so far!!!

Great story, okay narrator.
Revisado: 01-11-24
After getting through the whole book, I know why so many fantasy buffs revere this as a classic.
Solid story and lovable characters.
The narrator is very monotone but does what they can to make inflections to differentiate characters. Don't let it keep you from enjoying a classic fantasy story.

A retired group of legendary mercenaries get the band back together for one last impossible mission in this award-winning debut epic fantasy. Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best, the most feared and renowned crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld. Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk, or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay's door with a plea for help - the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for. It's time to get the band back together.

I thought I wouldn't like it, boy was I wrong.
Revisado: 05-06-20
This is an epic tale of friendship, family, honor, and brotherhood. I loved the chemistry between the main cast members. Contrary to what most people said, I thought the comedy was hilarious, even if it was lowbrow. Moog was what made up most of the comedy and was a riot. I loved how all the band mates had a weight they carried with them. Along with regrets and bad decisions that haunt them.
Spoilers ahead:
I loved Larkspur, she was well written and had a great redemption arc.
Last Leaf was a great villain, plotting, brilliant, arrogant, and proud. His death was ironic and kind of funny.
Lady Jane I didn't like because she was annoying and even though she changed her ways at the end, I still didn't like her.
Aside from that, the book was amazing!

A satisfying end to an epic saga.
Revisado: 04-29-20
There were so many emotions in this final installment of the saga.
Every character got what they deserved and I agree this tale is up there with Tolkien.
The consequences are permanent and hope prevails, but at what cost.

Historia
Hard Times is Dickens's most political novel. Set in the industrial north of England, in Coketown, he examines the lives of working people, who are taught by the capitalists Gradgrind and Bounderby to think only of the facts of life and not to indulge in imagination. Gradgrind’s own children have been so educated and as a result are dysfunctional and disconnected from their feelings. Only the travelling circus company of Sleary seems to offer any hope of humanity in Coketown.

Magnificent Book! Imminently Practical!
Revisado: 04-22-20
This is my first time reading/listening to a Charles Dickens book and I was not disappointed. There is so much symbology, imagery, and metaphors to glean from this. I love all the characters and feel for the main characters, and the trials they endure in these hard times. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good read that will give you something to think about.

A good story but a strange world.
Revisado: 03-23-20
I played the Witcher 2 and I have been watching Witcher content from a distance for a while. I wasn't too hip about how the world felt so uncomfortably dark in the game and I didn't see a difference here either. Something seems off in this world, I can't quite put my finger on it.

More of a short episode than a book.
Revisado: 03-05-20
this was pretty good story. however, I was a bit disappointed how the new characters we're only meant to stay in this book and be one-off villains. I was confused in parts of the book when he would say a name of a character and I thought they were dead but it turns out they weren't, as if the author forgot about that character completely. aside from that, the villains were pretty good and the plot was alright, it's just crazy how much trouble came from a bag of jewels. the author must have had a lot of fun spinning that web of craziness. this story felt like a short episode that was a side Adventure and didn't have that much effect on our main characters. probably because there doesn't seem like anything that will carry over to the next book. I guess I will have to read it and see.

Revisado: 03-02-20
If you have been reading the Tarzan books this far, then I think it doesn't have to be said how wonderful and classic this series is. I loved the new cast that follows Jack Greystoke through this adventurous tale. The honorable Morrison Banes and Mareon really make this story. I enjoyed watching them grow and have many character development moments throughout. It is a great continuation of the series and I highly recommend it.
