A Riveting “Whodunit”

Everybody’s favorite girl, Lark Chadwick, gets herself into deep trouble and despair after her boyfriend is killed and the finger points to Lark as the killer. Justice prevails but you’ll never guess from where.

Great Story, Couldn’t Stop Listening

From the references to Grand Dad Bluff, the chilling remembrance of carbon monoxide poisoning and the sad discovery of overdosed loved ones found on the streets of Washington D.C.; in some ways “Fake” is anything but fake.

Great Story, Poor Presentation

When I read this book years ago, I couldn’t put it down. It is a very inspiring story. Given the recent takeover of the Taliban in Afghanistan, and recalling the story parallels, I decided to add it to my listening list. Unfortunately, this presentation is filled with multiple reading voices that race through the book as if they are being paid a words spoken per minute rate.

Such a pleasure to revisit Clinton thru these touching stories wonderfully shared by the author with named references that bring the listener/reader back to memories of the other classic favorites connected to Ford County.

Jesse Stone expands his vocabulary

After 17 books in the series, the reader/listener gets very familiar with the principle characters (Jesse, Suit, Molly) and what they are likely to say as the current story unfolds. In this, the 18th of 19 in the series, Jesse suddenly learns to use the "F" word and all its variants as well as "S__t" and its variants. It's not that Jesse never used any of those words, but hardly ever.

I was there

As the author admits in his own voice during the notes and acknowledgements, the idea for this book evolved during a most traumatic time when his son Steven was missing for several days. Dozens of close friends swarmed into Washington and systematically searched the streets. Steven was found. Sadly, not alive. This audible book brings the listener very close to the reality of that tragedy with allusions and references that resonate with the listener -- especially those directly connected with the search for Steven. Highly recommended. Carry a box of tissues with you.

If you must, watch the movie first. The book, unabridged only, PLEASE, is terrific and paint a great story. If you like history, follow-up after you digest the book, and follow the same trail. You'll find a different story, but still very interesting, after reading the history.
