Historia
The late Dr. Michihiko Hachiya was director of the Hiroshima Communications Hospital when the world's first atomic bomb was dropped on the city. Though his responsibilities in the appalling chaos of a devastated city were awesome, he found time to record the story daily, with compassion and tenderness. Dr. Hachiya's compelling diary was originally published by the UNC Press in 1955, with the help of Dr. Warner Wells of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Something to read so that we never repeat this again
Revisado: 06-27-24
This book among others has fascinated me, not just with the survival of these amazing people, but also with the suffering that inevitably entailed after this barbaric act. It kind of makes you ask yourself why any of this happened. Sometimes I try to reassure myself that war happens because it is the mother of great inventions. Sometimes I just wish you didn’t have to come to this. I have great hope that we will never do this again.

Each tale is a magic trick, luring you toward the light while leading you down an ever-darkening path. There is hope mingled with horror, and that s Chizmar s secret power. His storytelling always beats with a huge, passionate heart. Stephen King says he writes terrific stories served with a very large slice of disquiet pie, and with The Long Way Home, Richard Chizmar has taken his evocative and compelling storytelling to an entirely new level.

Amazing collection of short stories.
Revisado: 06-27-24
I cannot say enough about how much I loved this book. I never want to influence anyone on what they love about their own personal art, but I will say that being an avid reader, this is one of the best short story collections that I have had narrated, the stories were awesome and the narrator was spot on and such a beautiful voice for each story. I especially loved the dedication to Steven King for his 70th birthday and this is something I’m going to keep in my collection for as long as I live. I hope everybody gets to enjoy this.

Beautiful characters and story
Revisado: 02-14-24
I can remember this book from when I was a very young girl. I went to the library every week and would walk home with piles of books. This book stood out to me because it was so awesome. I did not even know that it was the second book in the series as I had never read the gunslinger before, this is a beautiful story, and the only thing every reader to do is just get through the voice of Odetta. There was a bit of a faux pas in my opinion concerning their narration, with Odetta‘s voice. Even my dogs can’t sleep, listening to that voice. Lol! Either way… It’s a fantastic story, and the voice of Odada will not remain throughout the whole story. That’s all I’m going to say because I don’t want to give anything away.

Historia
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Fun and awesome story
Revisado: 02-14-24
Who could not like a store that sells trinkets, and every person that buys the trinket suffers from what they bought. I love this book because it’s kind of like an anthology… As in every single person has a different story, although they go into the same store.whether it’s the gambling addict or the woman with rheumatoid arthritis… They all get what they ask for. And as they say… The devil is always in the details. Fantastic book.

Scientifically fascinating, and absolutely enthralling and disturbing.
Revisado: 02-14-24
I truly believe that everyone alive should listen to this book. I also would like to give a warning that it does show that the most intelligent people in the world are sometimes the dumbest. Yes… I am speaking of Einstein, Oppenheimer, and everyone else who was esteemed to be the most intelligent people in the world. Perhaps we need to redefine our definition of intelligence. This book is not for the faint of heart and at the same time it’s something that I think is a very important part of our history. We must read this and remember to never let this happen again.

Historia
Ray Bradbury is a modern cultural treasure. His disarming simplicity of style underlies a towering body of work unmatched in metaphorical power by any other American storyteller. And here, presented in a new trade edition, are 32 of his most famous tales - prime examples of the poignant and mysterious poetry which Bradbury uniquely uncovers in the depths of the human soul, the otherwordly portraits of outre fascination which spring from the canvas of one of the century's great men of imagination. From a lonely coastal lighthouse to a 60-million-year-old safari, from the pouring rain of Venus to the ominous silence of a murder scene.

One of the great storytellers of all time.
Revisado: 02-14-24
Amazing stories, and excellent narration. I have so many favorite authors and I was a little bit late to the party as far as reading anything from Ray Bradberry. I eventually found out that my favorite shows such as “twilight zone“ many Stephen King novels, and many science, fiction, movies, as well as other genres of movies and books were definitely inspired by this guy. These stories are amazing and I would recommend them to anyone.

Historia
Anthony Bourdain’s death by suicide in June 2018 shocked people around the world. Bourdain seemed to have it all: an irresistible personality, a dream job, a beautiful family, and international fame. The reality, though, was more complicated than it seemed. Bourdain became a celebrity with his bestselling book Kitchen Confidential. He parlayed it into a series of hit television shows, including the Food Channel’s Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and CNN’s Parts Unknown. But his bad boy charisma belied a troubled spirit.

Eye opener and a bit disturbing.
Revisado: 02-14-24
The eye-opening part of this book is how many people truly are so disturbed by his suicide. Being a huge fan of Anthony Bourdain as well as zero point zero productions, and especially Zack Zamboni this was a difficult one to get through. I totally understand how his closest friends are a little bit disturbed by what happened and I truly believe that their reaction is based on the circumstances of his death. I still am confused and continue to rewatch the episodes. I think that what we have to draw from Anthony’s death is to always be there for people, and if you have an argument, just make it through it and love each other. Fantastic book. Lastly, what disturbs me is that on his early episode on “No Reservations”, he visited a witch doctor and prayed for Asia Argento. Flash forward to his end.

Historia
This was no ordinary war. This was a war to make the world safe for democracy. And if democracy was made safe, then nothing else mattered - not the millions of dead bodies, nor the thousands of ruined lives. This is no ordinary novel. This is the story of a young American soldier terribly maimed in World War I - he "survives" armless, legless, and faceless, but with his mind intact.

Revisado: 02-12-24
This book is an eye opener. If everyone read this, I doubt there would be so much war. We see what we want to see, and what is shown to us. This book takes us into reality. Brilliant and heartbreaking. Only recommendation is for people prone to anxiety to not read. This one hits like a ton of bricks.

Empire of the Summer Moon spans two astonishing stories. The first traces the rise and fall of the Comanches, the most powerful Indian tribe in American history. The second entails one of the most remarkable narratives ever to come out of the Old West: the epic saga of the pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed-blood son, Quanah, who became the last and greatest chief of the Comanches.

The best audiobook of my entire year.
Revisado: 11-08-23
This book is an absolute gem. I have learned so much, and I am actually on my fourth time listening to it because it is so riveting and adventurous and heartbreaking and the knowledge and the history that I never knew about still blows my mind. I end up telling my husband every day some new thing that I learned from this beautiful work of Journalism and art. The history is breathtaking and this literally takes me back in time when I listen to it. Absolutely gorgeous. Sometimes hilarious. Back in those days Indians gave each other, comical names based on basically the worst days of their lives. Whether it was “stink while walking” or a wolf vulva, these people had a great sense of humor, as well as a lot of love. With this said… I can kind of see where things went wrong because they describe it in a clear way in this book. I think this book has more to give than just the knowledge of the history. It kind of gives you a look into a timethat, thankfully, in this country… We don’t have to experience. This book truly exposes the difficulty that was entailed and settling this country. You just might find yourself asking who is coattails we are really riding on. I would recommend this book to anyone.
