Can’t Keep Quiet!
Revisado: 01-10-23
Great story, intrigue and treachery!
Really appreciated the sexual tensions in the story didn’t detract from the storyline. They enhanced the angst, but didn’t overshadow the flow!

Historia
Homicide detective Bryan Clauser is losing his mind. How else to explain the dreams he keeps having - dreams that mirror, with impossible accuracy, the gruesome serial murders taking place all over San Francisco? How else to explain the feelings these dreams provoke in him - not disgust, not horror, but excitement? As Bryan and his longtime partner, Lawrence 'Pookie' Chang, investigate the murders, they learn that things are even stranger than they at first seem.

Please Stop That Infernal Racket!
Revisado: 01-11-18
The person who did the sound for this book needs a new job! The ear splitting screech for police radios and the inane dramatic music after each action step is driving me insane! Not to mention a dB level harmful to the ears of man and beast. Wearing headphones and jumped about 2 feet when the stupid radio squelched. We get it, it’s not real, the story should bring the dramatic tension. Not the absurd voice in a trash can for character introspection!
It is nearly impossible to attend to the story. And Bry-Bry, in the narrators best big boy voice? Is this book for teens? Not so the violence would indicate. This narrator’s woman’s voice is ridiculous. Just bring in a woman for those parts PLEASE!
Loved Sigler when Ray Porter was the narrator. Just not sure I can even finish it! So annoyed I had to stop and complain!!!

Historia
To all appearances, Dan Chase is a harmless retiree in Vermont with two big mutts and a grown daughter he keeps in touch with by phone. But most 60-year-old widowers don't have multiple driver's licenses, savings stockpiled in banks across the country, and a bugout kit with two Beretta Nanos stashed in the spare bedroom closet. Most have not spent decades on the run.

Ho Hum and Give Me a Break!
Revisado: 06-08-17
Unlikeable protagonist! Disjointed story line. A narrator who made everyone sound like a character from a Stephen King novel, a creepy character, at that! Found myself actually repeating phrases and intonation with mocking sarcasm, alarming those around me!
Just won't try this author again, nor the narrator.

Wanted to stop....but just couldn't!
Revisado: 11-16-15
Karin Slaughter is my new favorite author! So many times in this narrative I wanted to stop because I was literally anticipating the next word with fascinated dread! Not for the faint of heart. Listen to the last section, after the book seems to end. Take note...always be aware!

Flat, Emotionless Drivel!
Revisado: 08-04-15
Nothing was remarkable, or even moving! I made myself finish because that is just one of my peculiarities!Seriously, I listened to the whole thing waiting for the "mystery" noted in the descriptions and reviews! This type of angst is typically enjoyed by younger people who envision the doom of humanity! I personally do not believe that humans are cattle! We will fight for survival no matter how we came into existence! Bah!

Yikes! This was great. Realistic story, not sensational rhetoric. Written in 1959, it lacks too many slick tricks. Just enough! Will Patton is amazing! Love his voice and the unique qualities he gives characters!

Disappointed In This One!!
Revisado: 05-25-15
I hope I can forget Memory Man!!
I am a Baldacci fan! This is the first book I have not completely enjoyed!
He is usually much clearer in his storylines.
Story was disjointed and character development was overdone on some and sorely lacking for others.

Historia
John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed facade begin to crack.

Analogies, analogies, analogies....anyone?
Revisado: 02-15-15
The story concept was actually pretty engaging . Although, the overuse of trite expressions and analogies really bogged down the flow, at least for me. The main character, Work Pickins, was bland and spent a lot of time whining. Several times I actually said to my iPod, "Come on, get out of your freakin' vehicle and have some balls!"

Princeton, New Jersey, at the turn of the 20th century: a tranquil place to raise a family, a genteel town for genteel souls. But something dark and dangerous lurks at the edges of the town, corrupting and infecting its residents. Vampires and ghosts haunt the dreams of the innocent. A powerful curse besets the elite families of Princeton; their daughters begin disappearing. A young bride on the verge of the altar is seduced and abducted by a dangerously compelling man - a shape-shifting, vaguely European prince who might just be the devil.

Take a Nap....You Won't Miss Much!
Revisado: 03-17-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book might be enjoyed by someone who likes a convoluted, and a never quite connected, story-line.
Have you listened to any of Grover Gardner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. He did a great a great performance...the only redeeming thing about this purchase.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Accursed?
ALL of the footnotes! Ego-centric blather that did nothing to enhance the story in my opinion.
Any additional comments?
This is the first book I stopped listening to after the first part. I've been a member for a number of years and generally am very satisfied with the books I purchase. My mind wandered so much due to the boring rhetoric that I couldn't keep the characters straight and repeatedly had to rewind to review. Too much effort for little pay-off. Sorry to be so negative...but this was an epic yawn! Someday I may try to go back and start over...just on principle. I hate to leave a book unfinished.

It Made Me Giggle!
Revisado: 03-27-10
Predictable storyline...I can live with that. But Amanda's cheesy southern drawl made me laugh out loud...to the point it distracted me from the story. It made her sound like a complete idiot who stumbled on the means to save her lover.....can't blame her for that...those sex scenes were hot! Overall, should be listed as a comedy.
