Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Absolutely amazing
Revisado: 11-30-22
I absolutely ADORED this novel! Though I was 18 at the time, I too was also packed up and shipped off to New York. I could see myself, my loved ones, ex lovers, and old acquaintances in all of the characters. Liz Gilbert did a great job mirroring our own humanity back to us. It was hard to not love even the worst character and find flaws in the ones you know you’re supposed to love. We all have our stuff, and this book provides us a safe space to grow and move on from our mistakes. Highly recommend!

Historia
At the time of his murder trial, Jarvis Jay Masters was in solitary confinement and spent 22 years in a five-foot-by-11-foot cell. This is where The Buddhist on Death Row takes off. With uncanny clarity, David Sheff describes Masters’ path to enlightenment - from being sullen and violent to discovering how easy and how hard it is to just sit and breathe, how those minutes spawn heightened perception and deepened compassion, the right way to remember one’s pain, and much more.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

It took me a little while to get into this story, but finally it hooked me. And once it hooked me I couldn’t stop. It’s a beautiful take on an ancient story.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Just listen
Revisado: 09-29-20
I am absolutely blown away by this book. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a phenomenal writer. The art form of having different actors voice the characters is next level. The reviews saying the book fell flat have no soul. LISTEN TO THIS BOOK! I cannot speak more highly of it!
