Historia
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Fun and Different
Revisado: 11-12-24
This was a fresh, interesting little sci-fi story. I wouldn't mind a much longer, complicated version of this, but this was a quite satisfying amuse-bouche. The performers were all great, I would recommend this to anyone interested in sci-fi, time travel paradoxes, and the supernatural.

Historia
On an unnamed island off an unnamed coast, objects are disappearing: first hats, then ribbons, birds, roses - until things become much more serious. Most of the island's inhabitants are oblivious to these changes, while those few imbued with the power to recall the lost objects live in fear of the draconian Memory Police, who are committed to ensuring that what has disappeared remains forgotten. When a young woman who is struggling to maintain her career as a novelist discovers that her editor is in danger from the Memory Police, she concocts a plan to hide him beneath her floorboards.

Underwhelming
Revisado: 03-02-24
I enjoy dystopian stories a great deal, But it was with this book that I came to realize, I enjoy having a why behind why things are the way they are in the story. Or, even if I don't get a why, I enjoy the characters exploring and unwinding the how behind the way things work in these stories. There is no how or why in this story, just a long tail of how different characters are suffering in their different ways. Mone of the characters were interested in getting out, dismantling the powers that be, or even talking about how they got there. If you like long winded tales about people who have given up, then this is the book for you.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

A good slow burn
Revisado: 08-16-23
I really enjoyed this story. It seemed to unwind so slowly in the beginning but when it hit its first twist, it really picked up pace and quickly kept rocketing around hairpin turns and surprises. the performer had a very soft, mellow voice and she did very well creating each character. I will be looking for others by this author AND this performer.

Historia
Seventeenth-century England, and a plough uncovers a grisly skull in the furrows of a farmer's field. The skull disappears, but its malefic influence begins to work in insidious ways upon the nearby village of Hexbridge. First, the cows stop milking and the fruit turns rotten on the trees. Then, an insolent ungodliness takes hold of the local children, mysterious fur patches appear on limbs and people start disappearing.... Something evil is stirring in the woods.

It was an interesting and quick story. The performance was very well done. Worth the listen, I would recommend it to first time audiobook listeners too.

Historia
A Heian-era mansion stands abandoned, its foundations resting on the bones of a bride and its walls packed with the remains of the girls sacrificed to keep her company. It’s the perfect venue for a group of thrill-seeking friends, brought back together to celebrate a wedding. A night of food, drinks, and games quickly spirals into a nightmare as secrets get dragged out and relationships are tested. But the house has secrets too. Lurking in the shadows is the ghost bride with a black smile and a hungry heart.

Skip it

While there was some pretty decent imagery here and there, overall, the story felt very shallow. Like it skimmed the surface of what it could have been but it felt hastily thrown together and there were no real surprises or points of intrigue. The reader, I think, was probably chosen because she sounds young, like the characters, but she had such a solemn yet aloof tone the whole time, it felt kind of monotonous. I don't mind a somewhat flat or vague affect, but this was too much like a brooding, borderline apathetic teenager.
