I knew I had to listen to it when I saw the title. And the book delivered exactly what it promised: a great demon story. I can't wait for book 2.

Historia
Greg walked into a bar hoping to wash away the sour taste of a bad day at work. What he got instead was a bartender offering him the opportunity of his dreams—with a catch. A ticket to purchase a class that could make him the strongest being alive. If he can afford the asking price. Thrust into a world he knows nothing about, Greg will need power on another level entirely. To get ahead, he'll need the kind of power only deities possess.

Historia
The heroes Terry Fairway once idolized have turned against him, hunting him down at every turn. His grandfather, the ruthless S-ranked necromancer who rules the city, watches from his throne as the people starve and suffer. Vampires stalk the streets unchecked, feeding on the innocent without fear of reprisal. Terry always believed his family were the good guys, but Wichita isn't a city of heroes or villains—it's a city of power. And if power is all that matters, then power is what Terry will seize.

Intriguing YA steampunk

Jumped in without looking it up for book club and was presently surprised how much I loved it. Fun, intriguing story, good narrator. I'm still thinking about the end and have lots to say at book club.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

wonderful cast for narration
Revisado: 06-14-21
The audible narration was fantastic. The voices, the pacing, the characters. I really enjoyed the audio and listened to most of it despite also having the whispersync ebook.
DRACULA is one of those classics everyone should read. It's well written, full of lore, and if you like vampires it's a must read.
However it is gothic horror written during the Victorian era, and it's full of the flowery prose and metaphors common to the genre and time period. I did find myself getting bored of the lengthy monologues about how good and holy a person was and because of that goodness some action needed to be taken. And while it did contrast their virtuous souls in comparison to Dracula's evilness, it was tedious after a while.
Despite this, it's still worth reading and I really enjoyed the book. The gothic horror elements are strong, and I reveled in the setting descriptions and moods. It's still fantastic in my eyes, and I'll probably listen to it or read it again one day. For after all, it is the original vampire book (or the one we think about because THE VAMPYRE by Dr. John Polidori was the real first vampire novel).
