I didn't know if Garth was a good writer or not before I got a hold of this book. Now, I feel like I need to read all of his books and take notes. It really is a master class in storytelling.

A thoroughly enjoyable ride. As an traditional adventure story, it's right up my alley. Add to that the lovable characters, amusing writing voice, and rich lore, and you have a story that you just don't want to turn off. It's definitely worth the listen!

My genre, but I feel burned

This story has a lot going for it. There's dragons, the thrill of survival against all the odds, some delicious romantic subplots, and all the signs of a much bigger, richer world with higher and higher stakes for our hero.
And even our hero had potential. Small but fierce, inexperienced but determined, she was a tough girl worthy of going on adventure with.

But the messaging in this story is hopelessly confused, and in the end I found the hero to be inconsistent and extremely irritating. Being irritating to other characters, that's fine, but being irritating to the readers makes it impossible to enjoy the story.

I gave up half way, but I'm sure that there are people who will enjoy the book for the genre's sake, or find the hero to be just the sort the crave. Read it yourself, and decide for your self. This book is worthy of that much.

Just Amazing

The author is a pro, and I think we all know it, but she's really out done herself with this series. the main character is a bit irritating at times, but kind of in that "I've seen it in myself so I can't stand to see it in others" kind of way that just thrills with its realness.
The narrator is awesome too. Some people go overboard with that "barely out of middle school moody teenager" style of reading, but here it is neither overdone nor inappropriate. Some of her accents are really good as well, which is always a nice addition.
Over all, an enviable experience, a can't-put-it-down book with the added bonus of being able to do other things and still keep going.

Trustworthy, Timely, and only sometimes Terrifying

I was psyched when I learned I can get these messages via my favorite listening app. Now, I listen to them to and from my work. For me, it helps to counteract all the crud and muddy emotions that rub off on me there, because they serve as effective reminders of God, of his plan, of his reliable words, and of his staggering mercy and kindness towards me. Pastor Hickenson's sermons are insightful, clear, sensible, and usually right, all of which sets him apart as a rare gem of a shepherd amidst a horde of wolves, wayward hirelings, and blind prophets. I recommend this podcast to absolutely everyone, and defy anyone to listen without being changed.

Love it! Humorous, British, and full of intrigue

This book is exactly what I look for in a murder mystery. It's light-hearted, with likeable characters and amusing subplots, but the mystery is sufficiently tangled and fearsome that I don't give up on the payoff or predict it.
