Great Historical Information
Revisado: 12-14-23
There’s a lot of really fascinating information here. I thought I knew quite a bit about Cades Cove but I learned a lot. The narration can be dry and some parts read like a textbook but overall, it’s well worth it.

Truly a storybook story…
Revisado: 07-25-23
What a wonderful book capturing a shared magical moment in time. The Princess Bride book and movie are quite literally works of art. This book honors that with insight to the production of the film and those involved with it. It’s not gossip, no shocking revelations, no scandals and no dirt. What it is is just a group of people bound together in a lifetime of kinship around the right movie at the right time. It is as it should be, a fitting tribute. How any real fan of the movie could not love this book is… well, inconceivable.

Digging up forgotten memories…
Revisado: 03-30-23
This is an amazing book, especially for those of us that lived a similar childhood. So many stories in here that almost seem ripped from my own life, well, aside from the killin’ and high IQs! So well told and the narration was perfect. I’ll be re-listening to this one.

Crazy is as crazy does.
Revisado: 03-08-23
This entire story is so insanely ridiculous, it could only be true. No one could make this up. It’s so bizarre and complex, it’s hard to keep up with at first but after a while, it’s starts coming together. It almost becomes laughable to the point I had to remind myself this really happened. Overall, it was a great book. Narrator did good, especially with the nearly unintelligible e-mails. A fascinating case and a good listen.

Historia
The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend. After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life.

Revisado: 03-06-23
Chris Farley was a comedic genius seemingly loved by everyone but himself. It’s such a sad story but the book told it very well. Good narration throughout. A fitting send off.

The definitive, intimate, no-holds-barred biography of Johnny Cash. People don't just listen to Johnny Cash - they believe in him. Although part of his life has been told on film, there are many compelling layers to his story that have remained hidden - until now. Robert Hilburn tells the unvarnished truth about a musical icon whose personal life was far more troubled and his artistry much more profound than even his most devoted fans have realized.

Hello, Johnny Cash
Revisado: 02-20-23
I’ve read a few Cash biographies and one autobiography. I was apprehensive about reading another but I’m very glad I did. Some of the tales in this book briefly tainted my image of the man in black. Things I’d never heard or imagined. Cash was larger than life but he was still only a mortal and sinful man. The book is written with such depth and emotion that I found some parts hard to listen to. Extreme attention to detail and deep research fills the pages. Other than a few noticeable edits in the audio, the narration was pleasant enough. In the end, this is the best Cash bio I’ve read.

Solid and surprising!
Revisado: 02-09-23
As a longtime fan of Hootie, I love their music but knew little about their history or personal lives. Not anymore. Jim’s extremely personal account reveals a lot of surprising stories. Good and bad. I wasn’t expecting the lowest of lows or the spiral inspiration jumping off the pages. Jim’s narration just adds magic to the words. Very good book cover to cover! Oh, and if you happen to read this review… Jim, you definitely stomped all over the “bro code”! Then you set it on fire and danced on it. Props to Bryan for allowing you to continue breathing! 😂

Interesting stories…
Revisado: 02-06-23
I found this book to be well researched and quite interesting. Lots of detailed information from throughout rock and roll music. Really captivating! I did have trouble keeping up with or enjoying the narration in the beginning but after slowing down the audio, it was good enough. The narrator never seems to take a breath. Still, I’d definitely be interested in Volume 2 should it become audible available!

From the do-or-die early days of self-financed recordings and D.I.Y. concert productions that were as flashy as they were foolhardy, to the multi-platinum, MTV-powered glory years of stadium-shaking anthems and chart-topping power ballads, to the ultimate crash when grunge bands like Nirvana forever altered the entire climate of the business, Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock's Nothin' But a Good Time captures the energy and excess of the hair metal years in the words of the musicians and industry insiders who lived it.

Awesomeness from the 80s
Revisado: 01-25-23
I loved this book! It really is a must for those of us that grew up rocking out in the 80s! I will say that it takes a little while to adjust to the narration since it bounces from one artist quote to the next, but once you get used to that, it’s friggin’ terrific! Nothing but a good book!

Narration was good and it was a somewhat interesting listen. It did feel like some of the stories were dramatized or glamorized in some ways. The lack of naming names was somewhat annoying. Still, it was worth the time.
