At the end of the book are two extra features, the acatual guy making a statement and then the author and Lucky discussing points. The actual guy, Lucky himself, has a deep voice, but the narrator is Leave It to Beaver little squeakly voice. That's what's you have to get past in the first half of the book. Plus the writing is not that great. But the story is incredible. This is a new book, Lucky is 99 years old speaking at the end, and they worked through the pandemic. To the author, read "Conversations with Major Winters" to see how books like this are done. To Mr. Luckadoo, thank you. I do understand going over the memories of the war is not what you want to do. My father was a B17 pilot in the 8th Air Force, and I've read hundreds of books, mostly biographies and autobiographies. Nothing new in this one, but certainly described what my father experience involving the missions and base. I have no idea what his experiences were off duty and in London.

This book is very well done and a great second story line to the JMB biography. it has many revelations previously unknown. Some parts are hard hitting, so in many ways, better than the biography. Read both to get the best perspective of JMB.

This book starts a bit rough, too forward, a little over the top. But, after a few chapters, the stories get more real and unusual. One begins to appreciate the opions. The setting is where I live, Brewster County, and some friends knew Joaquin. I will listen to it again. The narrator is good, but I wanted to hear Joaquin's voice. There is a second book, not an audio book, so I bought it and will read it soon. The famous rangers Joaquin knew are a big part of this book, too. Take notes when Joaquin recommends other books.

The structure of this book is excellent. It goes one player at a time, reviewing their history, and then focuses on one game, and then the last section of each chapter, "the game of my life." In this section, the player's own words describe some details and their emotions. The narrator is excellent. After getting into the flow of the book, those words and how the narrator said them heightened my senses for the personal revelations that follow. I had season tickets and went to many of these games, most notably, the Halloween in Lincoln that snapped the 47 home win streak. I remember the applause from the audience as Mack and Ricky were the last Longhorns to leave the field after TV interviews. The book brought back clear memories of where I was - a corporate Christmas party during the first Big 12 Championship, in the San Francisco airport when Ricky broke the record against a&m. To the authors - thank you. To my father - thank you. We had some great times together at Memorial Stadium and in the car listening to the radio broadcasts going hunting.

First off, the narration is great, a rarity in audio books. There are so many books I want to listen to, but the reviews are consistent that the narrator butchers the story. This story is fun and exciting, but the reader has to be interested in carrier operations. The negative reviews about the lingo are misguided. That's like going to Brazil and complaining they speak a different language. The language is part of the culture. Will I read every book in the series? This book has no lead in to the others. Autobiographies are much more interesting. Try "The Wrong Stuff" and find out why.

The British Version of the American West

Who better to write about the West than a city person from England! Without ever visiting the West, this book may be the perfect version of history for some people. Living in the West, this book reads like a comedy while trying not to be. The West still exists, not in the cities, but on the ranches and small towns. Austin, TX has no Texas culture in it, and cowboy poetry no longer has any cowboys, all hat and no cattle. Big Bend ain't a clock and BBQ is not a type of person. Try to meet a local, not just other tourists.

Read by the author's son, the narration was done this way to try and capture the way the author sounded. The stories are wonderful and give one a strong sense of going through flight training and combat. As experience builds up, the author becomes a better pilot and fighter, making clear the vast difference between the new and old pilots. Similar to "A Thousand Shall Fall," one of the best WWII pilot books. "The Wrong Stuff" is another excellent WWII pilot autobiography.

This is a wonderful treat for students of WWII. It is the armed forces network reports from the trials. They interview many different people, so you get to know the terminology and setting very well. The reporting quality of the AFN is excellent, a real treat. In fact, it feels like the trial is happening now without knowing the outcome. They don't cover the executions, so don't get your hopes up for a big ending. It's the unknown at the beginning that is so interesting. I went through it twice, which I highly recommend.
