I very rarely actually write a review, but I feel I must because this book and the one preceding it were so intoxicatingly different, obscure and completely absorbing. The characters are odd and imperfect and scream of humanity; though they may be nothing we have met before. This writer has a grisly taste for sinew and tissue, making it not for those with a weak stomach. But it is in this grotesque rendering that we also meet our purist fears and curiosity. For who of us can resist not looking at the gory leftovers of roadkill? Gratefully, this story is so intelligent and well woven that the crimes are only a sliver of the greater entertainment.

Terrifyingly raw

I am so glad I listened to this podcast. I have a whole other level of compassion for people who deal with this type of terror. Lily does an impeccable job of bringing us into that world and the fear and hyper vigilance is palpable. She brings up good questions regarding invisible violence, visibility in performance and social platform exposure, and the validation of fear. The paradoxes are everywhere from her performances on stage to her disguised invisibility in her everyday life. But, what sticks with me more than anything was the unwanted intimacy she felt herself fall into as a form of survival. She had to think like him, get to know how he works, predict where he will be all while he is consuming every bit of information he can find on her. The powerful transformation of Lily from the hunted to the hunter is why this is a hero’s journey. She’s raw and strong and determined to bring awareness to an isolated circle of hell and she is worth protecting.

Super fun and rollicking good storytelling

This series was a treat. The characters are interesting and enduring and the storyteller brings them alive in glorious technicolor. I enjoyed every word of this adventurous escape!

A most unusual setting steeped in honor and love amidst great evil. The story will never get old for me. It’s powerful, intriguing, beautifully constructed and now masterfully read by Tim Curry. This series remains the ultimate fantasy.

Breath of Life to Ancient Characters

Profoundly beautiful telling of Norse Mythology. Such a powerful story of sacrifice and love. The author is a master weaver of story and the narrator is so gifted at portraying the emotion of this novel. I loved it thoroughly.
