The story was so deep and nuanced that I was engaged with all of it. I enjoy that every side seemed to have their own motives and wasn't just doing things just because of for the plot. I too wonder what became of this world after the last chapter. I mean what will become of Brakendon and will Lyra start a family with Ramon? Well I will have to imagine it, Great story that anyone that enjoys deep fantasy worlds full of deep intriguing characters.

Great plot and story, bland character and development
Revisado: 04-03-25
The military era this was based is refreshing and interesting to m. The strategies and weaponry was interesting. The main characters were weak willed and no motivation. The Colonel was the exceptional and should had been the main character. There is a character here that is given rank promotions without earning them and it breaks the military aspects of the fantasy story. Also breaks the fantasy as this character is just handed the ideal power that was the goal of the Colonel. This character never knew about it or had desire for it, nor did they show the aptitude for magic. This alone ruined the story because other wise it would had been easy favorite. This is the only book of the series I will listen to or read.

excessive preaching
Revisado: 08-09-23
This actually started off pretty good but unraveled with the final confrontation. At the end things just went too smoothly and were uninteresting. The main character started seeming more wimpy and irritating. Two main female characters show him interest and his response is utter confusion and discomfort, It was sickening. he started to straight lie to people and constantly made dry speeches. He was in a magical world but kept wondering if his god was a fake and blamed it for his own decisions. Things happened in this world but it felt like they weren't of any real consequences in the bigger story. the Epilogue was a waste and better just skipped.

What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

Fun story with likeable characters
Revisado: 07-31-23
Easily the best litrpg if it can be considered so far. It had my attention from the first scene and just kept me till the end. 5 stars easily but just my own reasons I'll hold back. I ended up buying book 2 as soon as I realized it was a series. Which was near the end of this book. The title didn't indicate that this was a series as audible normally does. I was just going to get another book but the author and narrator. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone that enjoys fantasy adventures with dark twists and humor too.

Those in power do not believe in the possibility of triumph against the will of the gods, and instead squander their time and effort in indulging their needs and desires as the world quickly rots away around them. Mankind’s only hope rests on the shoulders of a man they hate the most. A man who has taken every possible measure, both accepted and forbidden, to attain power. Sungchul Kim, the man who reached the pinnacle of strength, now stands alone against the Calamities. Not because he is a hero, but because of a promise.

good writing but flat characters
Revisado: 07-26-23
This story is better written than most Litrpg stories I've listened to so far. which hasn't been too much because I couldn't really enjoy the stories. this one was creative and expressive enough. The main character was interesting and well written so that I could see him as a real person to some degree.
Yet everyone else was so predictable and boring. the one exception was the drill sergeant at the tower of summoning. Especially anyone that became an opposition to the main character. They were either over confident, arrogant with no reasoning for it. Just Raw idiocy backed by blind belief in their superiority. Once you realize the MC can smash anyone with one hit no one seems interesting. That happened after the Mage woman opposed the main character.
The fights weren't interesting at all as any fight with the main character was over before beginning. Over and over it was "swoosh" or "bam" then the enemy was a puddle of viscera. This usually happened right after whatever enemy looked at the ragged appearance of Sun and decided to fight. Just a second later and they don't get to regret it. there were some interesting scenes where sun tortured people for info before killing them. Those parts were refreshing and surprising as I haven't listened to any of these stories that had included such detailed violence. It added some depth and realism to the story.
The other problem was not understanding the Sun's motivations or what makes it that he's the only one like this. Most of the other characters are either written as lazy people or just waiting for opportunity. when they cross Sun they are so surprise at his abilities but he just earned through hard consistent work. I would like to know how's not one other character like this exist. there's little to prove that others like this exist in this world.
Near the end I almost doubled the speed to get the story done. though I liked it enough overall I started predicting almost everything. This in itself isn't bad but it was getting me to wonder why. Also the emotional response I got wasn't back Sun's success but wanting him to actually be challenged even get beaten up a bit. Then also why did they keep doing these scenes where they reveal Sun's approach or reveal as that man was Sunchiro. I always figured it was him way before they switch to him but it kept happening.
I'm not sure if I'll listen to any more of this series unless a worth while adversary shows up.

The most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes, the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his or her own instincts and ideas. It is the source of one of Emerson's most famous quotations, "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." This essay is a considered a watershed moment in which transcendentalism became a major cultural movement. An American classic.

thought provoking
Revisado: 03-13-22
even though it's about strightforward ideas they are presented in refreshing ways that help reestablish self trust. To think that views from back then resonates so well now and that it was spelled out more clear than I've heard from anyone today. It's so many ideas presented that I've wondered about before and had no one to voice them with. Most of those ideas would help explain why it's a great essay. Most of them might be taboo in society even today. For example trust your thoughts when you think them instead of seeking validation or what ever the source of your inner nature let it lead you over seeking guidance from outside. Even the idea of not expecting leaving a place where you feel terrible to change that feeling. Mostly is that how the more I listen to it the more I get from it the writing andword choices are complex for me. I never knew a good amount of the words but the context helped me not have to google each time.

Historia
The majority of mortals, Paulinus, complain bitterly of the spitefulness of Nature, because we are born for a brief span of life, because even this space that has been granted to us rushes by so speedily and so swiftly that all save a very few find life at an end just when they are getting ready to live. Nor is it merely the common herd and the unthinking crowd that bemoan what is, as men deem it, an universal ill; the same feeling has called forth complaint also from men who were famous.
