Historia
From an early age, Amber van de Bunt knew she wasn't like the other girls in town. From childhood struggles with depression and eating disorders, her years as a topless dancer in Florida, and an eventual abortion and suicide attempt, to her rebirth in Los Angeles as a porn star named Karmen Karma, overcoming her relationship with her abusive mother, and her struggle to maintain a clean and sober lifestyle - van de Bunt's life has been a roller coaster. With humor, alacrity, and profound insight, she reveals her deepest, darkest secrets and pulls no punches - least of all with herself.

This book is intense and traumatic, even just for the reader or listener. But because I kept wanting to listen, I kept wanting to see the main character succeed, thrive, and win, it is a good read! Hopefully, that makes sense. Thank you!

Is it just me or was that an extremely confusing timeline to follow?!
Revisado: 07-14-22
For the past few months, all I have read are Jodi Picoult books and I’ve loved every single one of them until this one. And I loved the storyline, I just had a really difficult time fully understanding it. And I certainly do not understand Quantum Mechanics at all. So maybe this is why I struggled to follow the timeline!? Did Dawn go to Egypt twice after the 15 year break? Still not sure. On to another one of her books.

Revisado: 06-30-22
I really did enjoy this book for the most part. But I am left with that feeling I get when a book leaves me hanging. And it’s because of the author’s decision to allow that Peter douchebag to live and prosper!? I mean, really? After all that Beth had put up with, couldn’t she have won for once?! Bob could have fired Peter and apologized to Beth!? Just sayin’

I must say that although I initially felt cheated at the very end of the story, I also appreciate the foreshadowing and how the author gave the reader the insight that quenched our thirsts. I like that it was laid out differently than most novels. Thank you!

I’ve been a James Taylor fan for as long as I can remember. I always related to his music and him, as a singer/songwriter myself. Now, as a recovering heroin addict, I relate to him on another level. Thank you James! ✌🏼❤️

Historia
Stephen Smith is the boy who did not exist. Born out of wedlock in the early 1960s, Steve's parents - both devout Catholics - had felt so 'shamed' by their son's illegitimate birth that they hid him away from the world by locking him in the cellar...for 13 years. Apart from a few admissions to hospital as a result of his 'imprisonment', Steve remained in the coal cellar of the family home where he was deprived of daylight, his childhood, school and human contact until he'd reached his teenage years.

Heavy yet hopeful
Revisado: 12-07-21
Steven, I just had to share something as I feel as though we are family. Throughout this book I was astonished and appalled at all you’ve been through. And as I prayed for you and an uplifting ending to your story, I thought about how we didn’t seem to have much in common. Until the ending…. Although I haven’t been through a fraction of what you have, I have a story. I am about to celebrate three years clean and sober, after more than a decade of heroin addiction and alcoholism. I believe that we see colors more vividly, see beauty in almost everything, and remain so very grateful for everything we experience today. It’s the silver lining to our extremely sad pasts. And when I first got to rehab, I came to terms with the notion of never singing and performing again. Because I had never done so without liquid courage or more. Truth is, I sing out more not than ever! And amazingly, from the girl who used to be sick to her stomach for days before a vocal competition, I know can say that there is almost no fear or stage fright at all! I cannot explain it. But I find it so incredible that it is the same for you! Maybe it’s just like you said, after experiencing something to be truly terrified of, performing on stage is a joy! A blessing! You’re amazing!! Thank you for sharing your story! Keep living the beautiful life!! Bless you!
