Historia
When 38-year-old Conner O’Rourke returns to Ireland, he’s running from his past. His advertising agency in Sydney is going broke, the bank is foreclosing on his mortgage, and he’s hearing voices in his mind urging him to return to Inis Mór. His grandmother, whom he hasn’t seen in years, has contacted him saying she's critically ill and must speak with him, but when he arrives on Inis Mór, a wild, windswept, rocky little island some 30 miles off the West Coast of Ireland, she’s already passed, leaving him a cottage and a dilapidated sailing boat.

Intriguing Story, a little repetitive
Revisado: 02-08-25
I really enjoyed the story. it was very well written and it kept me intrigued, however there was a spot where it began to feel repetitive. When it began to feel repetitive, it snapped out and it all tied together. I highly recommend it overall.

good backstory but hard to get into
Revisado: 02-04-25
It's a good back story for Fingal, but I found this hard to get into at the beginning. I didn't find it compelling at first but about 3 hours in, it flowed better.

America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

It really sucked you into the world they were living in. I felt like this was the most realistic post apocalyptic story I've ever read or watched.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Compelling story and good follow up on Danny
Revisado: 10-11-24
I was a little skeptical at first when I found out this was a story with a set of vampire like creatures, and wondered how it would fit into The Shining, but SK did such a great job following through on Danny and the story all tied together so well. It was nice knowing how things worked out for the remaining Shining characters. The adult Danny was such a compelling character.

Historia
Providing a post-COP26 perspective on the climate emergency, Hothouse Earth: An Inhabitant's Guide acknowledges that it is now practically impossible to keep this side of the 1.5°C dangerous climate change guardrail. The upshot is that we can no longer dodge the arrival of a disastrous, all-pervasive climate breakdown that will come. Bill McGuire explains the science behind the climate crisis, painting a blunt but authentic picture of the sort of world our children will grow old in, and our grandchildren grow up in, a world that we catch only glimpses of today.

Frightening and Informative
Revisado: 08-16-22
This book clearly and concisely explains what is likely to happen in the worst case scenario of not getting carbon and methane emissions under control. It breaks myths associated with global warming/climate change and confronts the rose colored glasses portrayal by media organizations. It explains how effects we're seeing TODAY are related to what the future holds and steps we can take today to avoid a complete catastrophic breakdown.

Historia
One evening in 1951, an itinerant storyteller arrives unannounced at a house in the Irish countryside. In exchange for a bed and a warm meal, he invites his hosts and their neighbors to join him by the wintry fireside and begins to tell formative stories of Ireland's history. Ronan, a nine-year-old boy, grows so entranced by the storytelling that, when the old man leaves abruptly under mysterious circumstances, the boy devotes himself to finding him again.

Mesmerizing story of a seanchaí
Revisado: 08-12-22
This is now one of my favorite books. It tells of the power of story and folklore on our history and culture, and it's impacts on what makes us who we are. We travel through time, and explore events as told by the seanchaí, a traditional traveling storyteller, yet always have the thred of Ronan holding us to the present. A must read/listen to anyone interested in Irish history and culture.

Riveting!
Revisado: 05-29-22
I am usually hesitant to listen to audio books much over 10 or 11 hours because I don't always have the time to listen to more than 30 minutes a day, but this one I couldn't stop listening to. The story keeps moving, is historically informative and tells a unique side of an often romanticized era.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 04-12-22
I have mixed feelings about this. I liked it enough to finish it and I'll probably listen to the next episode but I feel as if the characters were a little flat. Since the entire show is verbal conversations between characters or letters, without a narrator, I felt as if it was not fully developed and there's things that I am left confused on. I really enjoyed the old school radio show feel of it and the acting was pretty good. At one point while I was listening to this on a jog I actually screamed in terror thinking an animal was coming out of the woods to attack me due to the sound effects and feel of the show.
