Historia
Jake didn't think his night could get worse, but that was before his train stops deep underground and zombies attack and things go from worst-day-ever to run-for-your-life terror. Liv is good at running, mostly from other people straight into a bottle of vodka. But as chaos erupts on the city streets, depending on others may be her only chance at survival. London is gone. The world has ended. In the chaos that remains, seven strangers fight to escape the city.

Phenomenal start to what's sure to be an engaging series.
Revisado: 09-11-24
This book is great chapter after great chapter. The beautifully diverse cast of characters are relatable in all the best ways, and written so well that you find yourself forgetting they're fictional. The narrators do a bang up job making you believe who they are. They become like people you hang out with who are telling you about their crazy adventure. Excellent world building and weaving of stories that give ample details without feeling long-winded in explanations. I love the zompoc/dystopian genre but much of it is rife with predictable plot twists and lazy/crutch use of stereotypes. LM does NONE of that. He draws you into this freaky ass world, and just when you think you know how zombies are gonna behave... Well, he throws a wrench in what you thought you knew there, in the best way. The prequel novella is outstanding too. Can't wait to devour more of LM Juniper's books in the future!

Better story than the last book
Revisado: 10-30-23
I've loved this series but the narrator for this book and the last just doesn't feel connected to the story. That and the frequent mispronounced medical words (ambubag, saline, in situ, etc) really distract listeners. I beta for other authors and proof audiobooks, and I'm not sure how these snuck through. I'm a firm believer in the idea that if you're reading a series that uses certain terminology, you should study the words before narrating.

Historia
Kay Scarpetta has been training at the Dover Port Mortuary, mastering the art of 'virtual autopsy'—a groundbreaking procedure that could soon revolutionise forensic science. And it is not too long before these new skills urgently need to be put into practice. A young man drops dead, apparently from a heart condition, eerily close to Scarpetta's home. But when his body is examined the next morning, there are stunning indications that he may have been alive when he was zipped inside a pouch and locked in the cooler.

Feels disconnected from the series
Revisado: 10-26-23
I'm only halfway through this one, after zipping through the series up to this one. The narrator feels robotic and not emotionally connected like the other narrators, weird musical background interludes, and possibly my biggest gripe: Scarpetta has a whole secret military background we never heard about before now, despite hearing her inner monologue for 17 books? Or did I somehow forget that important detail? This one just feels off. I'm dreading that the next book is the same narrator. 😂 I may have to listen to the rest of this one and the next on a fast speed to just power through.

Historia
It's June in Montreal, and Dr. Temperance Brennan, who has left a shaky marriage back home in North Carolina to take on the challenging assignment of Director of Forensic Anthropology for the province of Quebec, looks forward to a relaxing weekend in beautiful Quebec City. First, though, she must stop at a newly uncovered burial site in the heart of the city. The remains are probably old and only of archeological interest, but Tempe must make sure they're not a case for the police. One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells her she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab.

Great story, not the best recording.
Revisado: 01-19-23
I have hearing issues and have to turn the volume up quite loud. I could hear the narrator swallow every few sentences. Perhaps this recording was done before decent pop filters were available to narrators for their recording set up but it was a little annoying. The story made up for it, thankfully.

Kyla is one of my favorite apocalyptic writers. She does such great research into the subject matter she writes about, and creates relatable, complex characters who take you on intense journeys. This is definitely one to add to your collection!

Dive into the 2nd series in this amazing zompoc world
Revisado: 04-20-19
I'm an avid reader of post apoc/zompoc/dystopian lit, but Sarah has a way of weaving stories and building relationships with characters that will ruin you for other series. I forget these characters are just inventions, because they feel like people I really know. Even with the strain of the end of the world to deal with, these characters show the best (and worst) of humanity. They'll make you laugh, cry, swoon, shake your head, and bite your nails. Sarah can wreck you in one chapter and make your stomach hurt from giggling in the next... And you'll want to listen again and again.

Historia
Cassie Forrest could almost believe life at Kingdom Come Farm is perfect, with Adrian and her friends at her side and spring on the way. The spring thaw also means millions of defrosting zombies, however, and if the past year has taught her anything, it's that life in this new world is highly imperfect. When Safe Zones throughout the country begin to disappear and the zombies at the fences grow in number, Cassie clings to the hope that if she has the people she loves most, it will be all right.

Historia
Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too.
