Historia
Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that Prince Charming would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

too long
Revisado: 06-26-23
The story started as expected from the synopsis.. But the farther into the story, the more stupid the dialogue seemed. I finally had to put the book down when the action became so ridiulous. The heroine could have just called out to her employer but instead she kept quiet and let herself be taken to jail. That's where I put the book down. This is probably only the second book that I haven;t finished in the last year.

Historia
Hugh had been taught that, according to the ancient sacred writings, the Ship was on a voyage to faraway Centaurus. But he also understood this was just allegory for a voyage to spiritual perfection. Indeed, how could the Ship move, since its miles and miles of metal corridors were all there was of creation? Science knew that the Ship was all the universe, and as long as the sacred Converter was fed, the lights would continue to glow, the air would flow, and the Creator's Plan would be fulfilled.

Not one of Heinlein's best
Revisado: 04-29-21
This seems to have been written when Heinlein was still in his "women are not capable" period. It does not hold well over time as some of his others have.
Basically -- a colony ship has left Earth and over the centuries, the people on the ship lose their identity and think that the ship will always be their home. As the ship is finally approaching Alpha Centauri, a group of the people resume their belief in the real mission and learn how to depart the ship.
The narrator does his best, but, as I said, in my opinion not one of Heinlein's better efforts.

In the grand tradition of Kethry and Talma
Revisado: 04-29-21
I have loved the stories of Kethry and Talma and I even bought a paperback in the last few years before they came out on audiobook. This series shows the fortitude, love and magnificence that women can have for other women and for all others. Although the books are written in a series, they each can stand alone.
One of the best things about Mercedes Lackey's stories is that she can celebrate a group of people without being condescending or negative to another.

Fairy Tales are History
Revisado: 12-28-14
This is one of the best that OS Card has written I liked Enger's Game but after that the books got more and more weird. The Gate Series is good but still in development.
This one is pure fairy tale but mixing "real" life with fairy tales. I think the narrator underplays it a bit, but overall, I think the performance is good. The story line is good, paced well and really invested me in the characters. I've listened to this one at least 4 times and it doesn't get old.

Kenyon rocks!
Revisado: 09-14-12
I had previously read someone's review about how good this book is. I second everything. I've listened to it at least 3 times and I hear something new every time. I still think "Devil May Cry" is my absolute favorite of the Dark Hunter series but this one is a close second. And this is tough, as I have liked most of the Dark Hunter novels.
I thoroughly agree that adding icing to the story is Acheron's conversation with Nick. While not totally necessary to this story, it is certainly a great conversation and I would not have missed it.

Historia
Citizen of the Galaxy takes place far in the future, when the human race has spread out to colonize other planets. In a slave market in the capital of Jubbul and the Nine Worlds, an auctioneer announces, "Lot 97. A boy." Slavery is commonplace in Jubbul, and the sight of the ragged, starving boy, Thorby, on the auction block is not unusual. What does puzzle bystanders and Thorby himself is his purchase by crippled Baslim, the beggar who sits every day in a corner of the marketplace.

stands the test of time
Revisado: 09-14-12
What made the experience of listening to Citizen of the Galaxy the most enjoyable?
Listening to someone else's performance of this very enjoyable book. I first read this book in my teens when it first came out. As a then teenager (over 40 years ago), I thought Heinlein was being facetious as far as slavery is concerned. I didn't think it could possibly still be a reality in this modern age. Lloyd James brings this story alive for me in a way I didn't think was possible as I had a very strong idea of how the characters should sound.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Citizen of the Galaxy?
There were so many. One of the most definitive was when Thorby is talking to Dr. Mader and she discusses the need for customs and how they work to help people live together. The next memorable moment was hearing the Colonel talk about new frontiers and slavery. As I have worked in public health for many years now, I know that slavery is not dead and that there are still people who think it is their right to own others.
Have you listened to any of Lloyd James’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Don't think so.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Thorby asks Mother Shaum if Baslim is really dead.
Any additional comments?
As I said above, I read this book many years ago. Except for the someone dated notion of how big computers have to be, this book very definately stands the test of time.

Historia
When Marcinko’s “friend”, the head of the CIA, asks him to spend a little quality time in Cuba, the Rogue Warrior finds there’s no way to say no. Once there, Marcinko and company discover that Fidel Castro is on his deathbed. Which wouldn’t be so bad, except that he’s planned a catastrophic surprise for the U.S. as his going-away present. The Rogue Warrior must find out the nature of that little surprise and thwart it before Castro kicks the bucket.

great addition to the rogue warrior seriesY
Revisado: 06-29-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Rogue Warrior: Seize the Day to be better than the print version?
Yes, but only because I can listen and do other things.
What did you like best about this story?
Good action, intricate plot.
What about Peter Ganim’s performance did you like?
Able to keep interest up even during expositions.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I had previously read all of the books in the Rogue Warrior series. Really happy when I discovered that audible had them in this format.
